Steering column length?

I put a Lokar floor shifter in my 84 shortbox and now the column looks stupid where the shifter and ignition USED to be, I relocated the ign to the dash. I'm thinking one of those universal IDIDIT type columns might be the ticket. Does anybody know the stock length of a mid 80's pickup column is? I can meassure mine but not sure exactly where to meassure from? housing end to housing end or splined shaft end to splined shaft end or??? I know I could swap one out of a manual trans 80's truck but I'd still have a big ol hole where the ign used to be.
