Keep or toss?
When it comes down to the taking everything apart, how do you decide what to keep and what to throw away, i know this seems like a stupid question but ive just been tearing everything apart and i dont know what to keep or throw away, what i can get brand new and what i need to keep kinda thing. Fenders are straight forward if they arent rusted i can use them, but other things like relays, heater cores, that stuff. Can anyone help me?

Re: Keep or toss?
Keep everything until the truck is back on the road. Whether or not you use the parts in their original condition or restored(painted/powdercoated/cleaned) or just buy new, their good to have on hand. Budget is a big reason not to get rid of anything for me. My restore is has to be long term. Of corse if it's broke and can't be fixed, pitch it, but write it down somewhwere.

Re: Keep or toss?
im doing a restore, practically a 'show' truck, so im hoping for most new stuff, but under the dash if i can reuse something i need to, then fine, but the grille and bumper and stuff are rusted and dented so it doesnt serve much use to anyone at all so i dunno

Re: Keep or toss?
Keep even the parts you plan to buy new. As you put it back together and start to get your replacements, it helps to have your old stuff to compare to the new and make sure they are just like what came off.

Re: Keep or toss?
I keep all of my bolts for "test fitting" stuff so I don't get the new ones all yucky before final assembly.

Re: Keep or toss?
Keep it and tag it (label) in great detail , you'll be happy you did !
some of the new parts these days are incomplete or just plain don't fit and with used parts little changes from year to year can really throw you off have fun !

Re: Keep or toss?
I say keep it. I trashed a lot of stuff that I found out people on this board will buy. I had a lot better job at the time and no kids therefore thought I would buy new stuff. Well no I have kids and new job and wish I had some of those parts back. That's my .02.

Re: Keep or toss?
I would keep them - although I believe that there are places out there that sell entire bolt kits for our trucks.
