Please suggest some nice sbc streetable heads.

Ok,
350 sbc 30 over 9.5:1 speed pro flat tops.(what its supposed to be for the heads and speed pro flat tops supposedly.i dont know the EXACT ratio.i bought the engine quite some time ago.received receipts, and ive replaced head gaskets)
all arp studs etc.
scat crank.9000 if i can remember right.
edelbrock performer aluminum intake, headers(long tube), holley 600, hei,
comp cams 270h cam

it has iron 194 heads on it.stock.Is this holding back some of what this engine can do?
I feel that its lacking in this area.
the engine really sets me in my seat and sometimes spins my 295-50's all over with the old sm465 tranny.

Could anybody point me in the right direction of what kind of heads to get? id like aluminum for the weight. as long as i am able to run atleast 91 or so octane pump gas(octane booster or whatever would be ok) id be fine.

Im sorry in advance if any of that is confusing. just looking for help. thanks!

Call or email your combo to AFR. They will recommend one their heads to you. Just be honest on what you really want out of it so, they can give you a good answer. But, it sounds like their 180cc heads would be good for your truck.

If you can't afford the AFR's, give a ring to Dart or RHS. I've always been a fan of the Dart Iron Eagles for the money.

Re: Please suggest some nice sbc streetable heads.

THe el cheapo heads from jegs and summit seem to make good power for the money. If the set up is not needing a large CFM item the power numbers I have seen are very nice for the head.. Do not forget that just about all of these heads may need to be re set for seat pressure or cam lift.. Myself buy the heads bare and go from there most times. Unless you buy them direct set up for your combo.. Some times your combo may be spot on for how they sell the head complete.

Weight is not the reason I would swap heads, it would be more for added performance and able to handle heat better. If you want to drop weight on the truck start removing un needed items, add a glass hood etc.

Re: Please suggest some nice sbc streetable heads.

Justy keep in mind what your trying to accomplish here is a COMBINATION of parts that compliments each other. Changing heads without a cam change that is a compliment to the capabilities of the heads, rpm potential, chassis (weight / gear / tire) and DRIVING STYLE..... is a WASTE of effort and money IMO.

Lets make a WHOLE BUNCH of assumptions here..........
Let's assume these heads with 1.94 intake valves are some of the mid 70's heads with a 76cc chamber,,, tha the block is a standard 0.025 deck, and the SpeedPro flat tops are those with a the larger 6cc valve reliefs.

Your compression is 8.58:1

A simple change to the more stock appearing dual 'eyebrow' valve reliefs and it jumps to 8.8:1

If the 1.94 heads are somethng from the early 60's with the 64cc chamber,, same assumptions as above and compression jumps to 9.9:1

Do something silly like zero deck the bl;ock for a good qench and your at 10.6:1

The point of all that..........................................

Most aftermarket heads are offered in one of two chambers,,, 64cc or 76cc chambers Which ones are you going to choose????

I think you have some more investigation to do before anyone offers up any solid suggestions. BUT,, with all else said here, the best out of the box, ready to run, quality guarenteed, flow numbers guarenteed, value for the $ invested is,,, AFR hands down.

Re: Please suggest some nice sbc streetable heads.

I have run AFR heads and they do work great. However on my last build I used RHS.. reason is I know where they are CNC cut and know the owners of the shop. Patriot is that the company our of TX?? if so I spoke to them and what I found was they have a bunch of kids taking calls that don't know there azz from a hole in the ground.. No Fing clue about much of anything .. well maybe how to text and play angry birds bet they are good at that.

Marv the little SBC thats in that nova has 210 AFR's on it and it really is just a little 4.030 bore engine.. running low 11's .. will be down next Sat to speed world, no spray that trip trying to get it into the 10's on the motor first then we hit the juice.. HARD!!! SPRAY it BABY!!!!!
