Whats the differance??

Ok The 283 that i pulled out had a short water pump, the new 350 has a tall water pump. I really dont like the looks of the tall, whats the differance between the two? Can i change the tall for the short?

Thanks

Re: Whats the differance??

The difference is..........one's long shaft and the other is short shaft.
Yes, they're interchangable.

Re: Whats the differance??

Make sure you use all the correct pullies and mounts for Alt., PS and/or A/C. Yes the pumps will physically mount to the engine but all the other parts are specific to the short or long style pump.

Good man, VanceH!!

Everybody's pretty much right: It'll all bolt up, but you have to look at what your alignment is with the pulleys. I just replaced my solid fan with a fan clutch and flex fan. I had to space it out about 1/2" to clear the crank pulley. Good ol' Murphy always tapping me on the shoulder when I least expect it.
