Trans mount issues (more like PO d.g.a.s. issues...)

So I am under the new truck tonight messing with the exhaust (PO never installed the header collectors right....2.5" collectors don't just clamp to 2.25" exhaust pipe) anyway, I look over and notice that the transmission mount isn't bolted to the crossmember! not only is it just sitting on on the crossmember, it is shifted to one side and I dont think I can adjust it so it lines up with the bolt holes in the crossmember. what can I do? I haven't measured to see if the trans is sitting crooked in the frame, but it wouldn't suprise me... This also probably explains why the carrier bearing was shredded...

how do I correct this? The trans mount is the correct part...it just doesn't line up, and can't be shifted further in the direction it needs to go. I need another 3/8 to 1/2 inch. Thanks

Re: Trans mount issues (more like PO d.g.a.s. issues...)

I am going to attempt this shifting on Saturday. I was under there today though, and am trying to figure out if the trans yoke is supposed to be dead centered in the truck? I calc'd that measurement to be about 16.75 inches from the center of the frame rails... does that sound right? right now the yoke is at about 16" from one side and 17.5" from the other...so i have to shift 3/4"! how much play can there be to not affect the driveline?

Also, if I didn't loosen the engine mounts what would the harm be? I am assuming moving the trans a 1/2-3/4" would only put a small twist in the engine mounts right, but what about stress on other parts?

Cdowns
I totally agree...I was just asking what the harm is? With all the crap I am finding on this truck the jobs will get done right...
