Is there such a thing as a '66 Long Box StepSide??

I have heard people talking about it, and never heard of such a thing, I have been trying to find photos of such a early 60's truck, with a long box step side.. but can't find any.. I would be interested in seeing what it looks like..

Thanks!

There are such beasts out there...I'm not too fond of them myself.

http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/ballard.htm

See the link above for a long bed stepside. They made stepsides in 6', 8' and even 9' in the 60-66 years.

Steve

I wonder if it's possible to shorten that box? I'm sure you can shorten the frame (currently doing it to my '67)

I agree I always thought they looked a bit strange, too much open room between the fender and cab. my 2 cents

Some vehicles end up being automotive curiousities. Much like the 4-door 68-72 Chevelle and Nova. I'm glad someone keeps them around to satisfy my curiosity, but I wouldn't want to own one.

Remember trucks were built for working back then. A swb was pretty much useless for farmers and others who used them. The swb was a cheaper truck( not by much) I knew some more affluent farmers had a swb to go into town and stuff like that. They can be shortened like anything else can if you want to do it. Personally I like them all

Yes, these models were made and were very functional. Here is a 1965 longbed stepside.

Anything is possible! It would be easier than a fleet IMO.

I used to see one rolling around my hometown. Always thought it looked weird. Probably why I've never seen one customized, though I'm sure it's been done.

Talking Re: Is there such a thing as a '66 Long Box StepSide??

here is mine:

my 1965 chevrolet lwb stepside

1965 Chevrolet Truck - C-10 Series 1500 (1/2 ton)

Model C1504 = long wheel base - 127 inches, Stepside with 8 foot bed.

Wheelbase is the length between the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel.

The stepside bed measurements:

from the surface of the bed wood to the top of of the bed rail - 17 3/8th inches

Bed Length 8 feet 4 inches (100 inches) - outside edge to outside edge

Bed Width 4 feet 2 inches(50 inches) - inside to inside

Usable Inside Bed Length 8 feet 1 Inch (97 inches)

33.68 square feet of bed space.

----------

I wanted a long bed stepside, and I finally found one.

If you really want to mess with people's heads, make it 6 1/2 or 7 ft when you shorten it!!!!!

Yep. My 3/4 ton is stepside long(8ft not longhorn 9 ft) will fit full sheet of 4x8 plywood and other such building materials. No way i would ever shorten it!

Re: Is there such a thing as a '66 Long Box StepSide??

For the money and time required to shorten a factory lwb stepside bed, you would be miles ahead to buy a used swb stepside bed or an aftermarket swb stepside bed. Shortening the frame is not a complicated process, but the bed is a little more involved.
