Signs of an aftermarket grill surround 71/72?

Are there any tell tale signs distinguishing an aftermarket 71/72 grill surround from an OEM?

I have three and they all look the same to me. I know two are OEM for sure, and one is an aftermarket. Just trying to figure out what I'm missing. They all fit the same. Nothings jumping out at me.

To The Top. I can't recall myself. I'm sure you've compared them hard. I'm sure there would be something different. They didn't have a PN stamped?

Sometimes the after market suppliers sell NOS parts.

Re: Signs of an aftermarket grill surround 71/72?

hey, dont know if this helps,
i had a 1966 chevy biscayne several years ago
the trim strip on the side got dinged in a parking lot pretty bad
ordered a brand new one, and even though it was real close, you could tell the difference in the shine side by side, eventually found an oem at a car show and replaced

my guess was that the coating was not as regulated in the early years compared to years later, toxic issues regulated differently

just a guess to check

GM are anodized and aftermarket are clear coated. WES
