rearend question

we have a 70 swb chevy and have done the disc conversion on the front usinf the chevelle rotors and are now working on the rearend, converting to a 5 lug pattern. we are wondering what our options are since we have a 1970 chevelle parts car with a 12 bolt under it, since it will have the same bolt pattern as the fronts if it would work with out major modifications.. or what our other options would be without major expense

If the width is OK you might need to change driveshaft length. You might also need to change backing plates to get the e brake to work if the cables wont change although they should. The 12 bolt passenger is a good rear end. You'll have to cut the ears off the top of the housing for a clean look since its a chevelle rear end but its no biggie. Great parts availability with those and theyre stronger than the truck rear end.

Not Sure

but u might see if the axles will interchange. If the width is the same on each rear then u might be in the clear.

If your rearend is a 1970 model, the 5x5 pattern axelshafts out of a '71-72 Chevy truck will go right in. That would proably be your easiest solution.

I think he's looking to keep the same bolt pattern as the front at 5 X 4 3/4" . Its the width thats the problem here. Both the 12 bolt truck and the 12 bolt passenger use the same 30 spline and diameter axles and will interchange if the length is right. I dont remember the width on the chevelle axles its been a while since I have torn one apart.
