350 Timing setting
Hi everyone,
I have a 68 Chevy truck that has a 70's 350 in it. The only non-stock item appears to be the 650 Edlebrock carb. Does anybody know in general what I should se the timing at? I am currently looking for the engine ID. Thanks. |

Assuming your distributor and both the vacuum and mechanical advance are in good working order I'd start by disconnecting the vacuum hose to the distributor, set the timing at 12 degrees advance. That should result in about 32 degrees advance at 2800 - 3000 RPMs. Reconnect the vacuum hose and test drive. If it pings at drop it by 2 degrees and recheck. This will get you in the ball park and you can fine tune fron there.
