Any suggestions on what tire sizes will work on the original steel wheels? 215/70 R15 on them now. They look a little small, but I guess that's because they are 15s. Original spare is still underneath and looks even thinner.

Also, if I go with that same size, Bridgestone makes a tire, Turanza EL400, in that size with a whitewall. Load rating is 97T. Any thoughts on if that's robust enough? I'll carry a scoop of mulch or soil in it occasionally, but it won't be used "as a truck" all that often. If not that tire, any other suggestions for a whitewall that will work on the steelies?

The closest contemporary tire size would be a 235/75-15. 75 series tires are the profile the old normal 78 series tires were.

The size used often on the 67-72s back then was a G78/15. It is about the size equivalent of today's 215 or 225/75/15. 235/75/15 is just a bit bigger and fills the wheel opening better without going real wide.

P.S. Should I be worried about any problems if going to a larger tire size? I'm thinking about braking issues with the 4-wheel manual drums.

I wouldn't be concerned as long as your brakes are in good operating order. People have often run much larger tires than these with the same drum brakes and no problems.

A common old school truck tire size was the 7.00-15 like in this period photo of a '68 C 10. This size is still available if special ordered. Yokohama also makes this same size in radial 7.00R-15. These are about 29" tall. Modern car tires just don't have the same tall narrow profile, they are too wide and short, plus don't have the cool "side tread". For some reason they don't make a tall 85 series 15" tire for your rim, the tallest is 75 series. 7O series are way too short.

I wanted a stock look, so I went with a 235/75. They are probably a tad bigger than the factory ones but i did not want to pay $$$$$ for the correct ones for a driver.
