this was an exercise in "lowering my truck on a budget. just got everything together today and had the front end aligned. very happy with the ride and the suspension travel. still have 2-2.5" from touching bump stops front and rear.

specs:
2.5" drop springs in front thanks Andrew!
5" drop springs in back Chevy Duty @ $110.00
stock heavy duty shocks in the stock locations Oreilly @ 13.99 ea x 4
275/60/15 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 Tires Plus @ $82.00 ea x 5
Corvette Rallyes 6 x 5.5" bc 4.5" backspace w/ '68 Biscayne Police caps @ $475.00 for 5

well I have a "the day I brought it home pic". might give ya some ideas! I have since buffed all the oxidation off, went throught the interior with new or oem pieces, cleaned the engine compartment, replaced ball joints, wheel cylinders, etc. plan on driving it with the original paint and dents for a while. the truck was originally from WY and had virtually no rust, so it was a great platform to start with.

can't afford a frame off with a 6 month old boy!!!! but that leaves more money for dad to buy Hotwheels for his son!

it took a while and some elbow grease, but here what I used:

turtle wax rubbing compound (liquid)
turtle wax platinum liquid wax
mother's carnuba wax
mother's detailer spray detailer
random-orbital buffer
terry cloth rags

I had to hand buff with the rubbing compound once, then followed up twice with rubbing compound on the r-o buffer. then hand applied one coat of turtle wax platinum followed by 2 coats with the r-o buffer. lastly, finished up with mother's carnuba and mother's detailer spray detailer.

the turtle wax liquid (not paste!) is the best stuff I have ever used to cut through heavy oxidation. I tried several other methods of removing the oxidation but to absolutley no avail.

I'm wondering how you decided on 10" wheels instead of 8s (that's the width you had in another post). Have any rubbing issues? How's the steering with tires that wide? Are those Wheel Vintiques wheels?

Joel, I went with the 10" wheels because I wanted the combo to fill in the wheel well as much as possible. I have absolutely no rubbing issues. I have had them lock to lock with no problem. the steering is amazingly easy, in the big scheme of things. and I don't have power steering. just keep all of the front end grease fitting topped up.

Yep they are Wheel Vintiques. I had an EXCELLENT experience with David's Rally Wheels out of Sacramento. He has tons in stock and ships the same day. Very good guy. Highly recommend if your going with rallys....

good luck with the oxidation. you'll need a lot of aspirin afterwards for your arms! drop me a pm if you need anything else.

I'll post one tonight when I get home of the drivers side. it was a bit expensive buying 5 wheels and 5 tires!!! asked a few of my other motorhead friends if they liked/disliked the side mounted spare. amazingly enough, they like it. I just might leave it when I do a body off.

on another note.......
can't wait until this weekend. found 2 old salvage yards within 60 miles from here that's "supposed" to have several 67-72's. I'll check them and give an update and pics

The side mounted spare is usually a love it or hate it thing. The cool thing about it to me is that we'll likely never see any trucks ever built that way again which makes it unique.

Your truck cleaned up real nice! The drop and new wheels make it a completely new beast! And as far as the spare on the drivers side... I love that look! A stepside may be in my future just b/c of that spare tire! LOL
