216 Timing Cover

What is the fix for the two stupid bolts inside the oil pan? Saw something somewhere about threading them from the outside....?

Re: 216 Timing Cover

It's been over 59 years since I had one of those apart. I'm not remembering the exact reason that they are that way unless it is hard to access them from the outside. If (when) the fiber timing gear broke you had to pull the pan to remove the pieces anyhow so it probably wasn't that much of an issue back in the day.

I'd have to go out to the milkhouse and work my way to the back to the 48 216/235 that came out of my grandfather's 1 ton and see just how they are put together.

Re: 216 Timing Cover

Well....the gears are on the outside of the mount plate, so that probably wasn't the issue!
I thought I read somewhere awhile back, that you could drill them out for a 5/16" bolt that goes in from the outside. Just wanted to make sure befor I di it. Seems like there should be plenty of room...
