55 GMC Powering steering - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys, well I'm getting ready for my winter project. I'd like to put power steering on my 55 GMC with the original pontiac v-8 and would like to keep the original style power steering pump setup on the engine. Does anyone have any pics to make sure I'm getting the right stuff? I'm unsure if the pontiac version is different than the gmc version. I'm looking at some pontiac style stuff right now and have found a setup off a (whats said to be a 59 GMC with the pontiac v-8) but it looks kinda not right. Thanks for the help

Yeah thats what the power assist setup would look like. I'm looking for the pump setup that goes on the engine - easy to find for the sbc v-8 can't seem to find any pics of the pontiac v-8 setups that were in the gmc's

Factory GMCs of this vintage with PS are quite scarce, and I have never seen the parts offered for sale. Unless you are dead set on doing a totally stock resto, you will probably have better luck looking for Pontiac pump mounting parts, and even those aren't going to be easy to find. A good place to start would be a vintage Pontiac restorers' site.

Thanks Ray, I went ahead and got an original 59 GMC setup and a 55 pontiac setup so I'll see what they look like when they get here and go from there. Thanks
