New Sub box, its awesome!

Well... I got bored over the holiday break and decided that my .6 cu ft box for my Perfect 10 just wasnt cutting it anymore. So I went over to the local woodyard and picked up some MDF. I calculated the dimensions for a wedge box so I could get a little over 1 cube.

I must say that this sub is finally starting to show its full potential. I didnt account for how insanely large this sub is, so I had to copy Swervin and make a ring for it. But everything is all good, no leaks anywhere and it pounds like a champ. Everything is still in the last stages of curing, but I got antsy and tested it.

Ill get some pics in a second, but tommorow I am buying some nice carpet for it and covering it, also prolly starting on the 6 1/2 boxes for the cab corners.

There she is, suprisingly I have no leaks. You can see where the previous box was too close to the seat and blew through the dynamat. The sub isnt as pretty anymore

I put the dynamat on there to kill the vynl from rattling so much. Now I think I need to cover the whole back wall

The ring is on there because..... the speaker depth was longer than the box was deep?

Yeah the depth was about 1/4" too short. And actually I only lost about 2 clicks on the seat. Its still got plenty of leg room suprisingly. I think its because of the newer seats in there.

You can buy steel cups that go on the inside (back) to help clear for larger speakers. That way you dont need the spacer up front.
You cut a hole in the back of the box, install the cup with glue and screws. You can get the cups at Circuit City and probably most car audio places. Not sure what the name is, but they are a good idea and only cost like $6 each.

yeah, I had one on my Q-Logic box and I was gonna yank it and use it, but I didnt think that it was worth it. The ring works fine and theres no clearance issues.

I know, the Sub really likes a lot of air though, I have plenty of power running to it also. More air = lower frequency

sweet. it wont look bad at all once you get it covered. the only problem i see is trying to carpet that ring. anyways, good job!
also, what apm are you running?

Im running a MTX 350W mono amp. I got it at a damned good price. A new alternator is on the list of new parts I need

Whered you get the material to cover your box? I need to run out and get some today.

i got mine at home depot. make sure to buy spray glue aswell as paint on. they both come on handy.

Hey Rolf, that MTX 350W amp you're running...is it the 4250D? I picked up that one a few months ago from SoundDomain for like $150!
BTW: In my vette, I have a Kicker Comp VR 10" sub with a 1.6cu sealed box (ran off that MTX amp) and it pounds quite swell.

Yeah, after about 1 cube or so, it gets a bit too boomy for me. I dont like rap THAT much

Not my best work, but its covered atleast. Im not really proud of the job, Hrmm... looking at it, Ill prolly redo the whole front, it looks pretty dang bad now that im staring at it. Needs to be cleaned up.

my friends cerwin vega 10 has the box running the whole length of the back the bigger the box the better the sound. what kind of sub are you runnng in there?

Not neccisarily on box size. The more cubic feet, the deeper the sub can go. But with a bigger box, you need the sub to hit harder, so you need more power. There is a point where you will lose efficientcy and the box will be "too big".

As for the carpet, its in the carpeting part of home depot, I just used the thinnest stuff I could find. 10 or 12oz stuff I think.

I've always bought that carpet at Walmart. They have it in the automotive dept, about $10 a roll.

kicker amps are alright.... and their subs are great.

as of now, i am running a harmon kardon 1000 watt amp to two mtx 8000's. i want different subs, but who cares, i still have a fender to fix. my spl last week was 139.8

my friend has a k5 with two kicker solo-baric 12's and they sound good.

I recommend KICKER from my own personal exsperience with them. I had 2 kenwood 3-way 6x9's, two pioneer [i think?!?] 5.25"s, two bostin aucustics 1" tweeters, a 5 channel crossfire amp, and 1 12" JL audio sub in my 78 before it was all stolen. Sounded good except for the bostin acustics component set, which is why it went to pioneer mids. That all got stolen one night so I started again, and with a different truck

This time I went with ALL kicker stuff. 6.5"/1" component set in kick panels [no pun intended] 5 channel amp, and a single 12" comp VR sub [wanted round to make getting a box easy] and this system kicks the old systems arse. Im going to keep this sub and add another one, a 10" solo-baric, for my next vehicle.
