Engine and SM465 Removal

Did the search thing and came up empty. Can I remove the engine (350) and the trans (SM465) at the same time? The next question would be if i can how is the trans held down? Thanks in advance.

Re: Engine and SM465 Removal

You can, but you will have problems clearing the lower firewall/trans tunnel area. You can do a couple of things:

1. Jack up cab so there is clearance
2. Remove the top of the tranny where the shifter is. It has to be in reverse to accomplish this. This will provide needed clearnace.
3. Unbolt bell housing and remove engine and tranny separately

Tranny is bolted to cross menber thru bellhousing; one bolt/mount on each side.

Re: Engine and SM465 Removal

There are two mount underneath your bellhousing that support the transmission. My self, I'd remove the trans first then the engine and bell housing together second. The SM465 is a very tall transmission and it can be tough to get it out with the engine as a unit.

The trans is held to the bellhousing by 4 bolts. It's real quick to remove it.

Re: Engine and SM465 Removal

I got a question the Bulldog SM465...

I have it hooked up to a Bored out 250 I-6 in a 1 Ton 4x4. My Problem is how in the h*** do you remove the Bulldog with a NP205 attached to it? Because at the moment I have the Tranfercase on the ground yet the Transmission wont budge even if I do wiggle it.
