What's up with VH Coachworks"??? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I see where they were banned from selling on this board awhile back but did they ever get their s**t together?? I assume they are still banned? That sucks cause I really need one of the headlight relay harnesses and I am not smart enough to figure out how to do it myself. The Painless Wiring headlight harness they sell has gotten too expensive for me and I heard the LMC one isn't very good.

Could someone do a build thread on this with actual part numbers and step by step instructions? I prefer not to cut the original harness, I was thinking of a "plug and play" option.

Someone who is good with electrical should start building these to fill the void left by VH Coachworks. (Hint hint Vetvette, TX Firefighter). Sorry if I misspelled your board names.

I have never understood the need to do this conversion. Convert to an internally regulated alternator and run a 90 amp alternator. The lights are extremely bright and don't dim when coming to a stop. WES

It's to avoid routing all the power for the lights thru the switch. They burn out faster, not that it really burns out very fast.

I did a conversion on a 240z back in 2000 by just using a relay where the power goes into the passenger compartment and using the stock wire coming from the switch as the on/off for the relay. I had to add another 18 gauge wire to power the switch, but that's all it took if I remember right. It was 14 years ago so I couldn't tell you which switch I used, but I think I might have got it at an auto parts store.

The description in the link says for single headlight only. Dose that mean that this mod is only for chevy, and wont work for a gmc? Im dumb when i comes to electronic stuff. But the kit, if it would work for a gmc gives me hope that its something i could accomplish.

Txfirefighter has an excellent write up in FAQ for building your own harness. It is inexpensive and very simple to do. If however you do not want to source your own parts, the LMC harness is plug and play. Simply remove the hideous yellow wire wrap, tuck the wires into your OEM loom cover, and route the harness relays under the battery tray, and it looks 100% stock and hidden. I have had one on my current truck for three years now with zero problems. Upgrade to the relays, swap in some Sylvania Silver Star sealed beam headlights, and enjoy an enormous difference over your stock lighting.

I upgraded my lights and installed the relays from that diagram and it real easy, works great and lot better brighter lights.

Not sure where you herd bad things bout lmc's heavy duty harness but I have over five thousand miles logged with mine and most of it nightime driving. Sure there Chinese but not everything they touch is complete garbage like everyone says.

That particular kit is just for Chevy.

I made my own harness after my headlight switch went out. at the time I was running a stock charging system and it really helped.
we routinely do the headlight relay conversion on land rovers because the headlight switches are $125 new and don't last very long if you don't
