68 Shorty Stepside
After looking over these forums, I thought I would share our project.
It is a 68 short box Stepside project I got from a family member about four years ago. He had started it and after his wife, daughter, and son died in a 5 year span. He just didn't have the drive to work on it. I also have a 70 short step. So he wanted me to have it and gave me a great deal on it, along with enough parts to finish it. My dad and I had been working on it as We could for 2 years and was real close, but I was in a head on crash and suffered fractured vertebrae and in an upper body cast so it was sidelined along with myself. This year I gave myself a deadline to finish by Father's Day. I want to have it ready for my dad to use. We have been working on it together. He had a 72 long box that he still says was the best truck he ever owned. So right now it is all block sanded and ready for paint. Nothing fancy a nice stock looking truck. It has a 350/350 combo and 3.73 posi. My painter should be able to spray it shortly and then final assembly. Thanks Ed |

Re: 68 Shorty Stepside
Yes all of that was done before I got it. We have a nice set of rally wheels for it. But may go with something different.
Thanks |

Re: 68 Shorty Stepside
Well Father's Day has come and gone. The painter I was going to use hemmed and hawed for several months, I got the point. Since it has been block sanded for many months I figured I would do it myself. Otherwise I would probably damage or procrafstinate too much.
I decided to paint it for the fourth. so I bought a good sprayer and tackled it my self. My first paint in 20 some years. I got the box, tailgate, steps, rear fenders, and the cowl bottom painted yesterday. Saturday, I will go over the cab and front, mask and spray Sunday. Ed |

Re: 68 Shorty Stepside
Nice job on the paint. Is it a single stage or bc/cc?
Keep it up, Rg

Re: 68 Shorty Stepside
Nason bc/cc,
It was fun matching the color, I got a 1/2 gallon from 1998 with it, old ppg product no longer supported, he intermixed two colors, the codes were not coming close, so I hand mixed enough to paint it 2 times, so we can have repair paint if needed. Thanks Ed |

Re: 68 Shorty Stepside
The parts trucks rockers, corners, and floor is gone, way more than I would start with.
