69 Custom Camper C-20

Just looking to get an overview or link if anyone has one for exactly what was standard on the Custom Campers. Wanting to see how roughly close to accurate my truck is or if it's ridiculously off track.

This is correct standard equipment, but I would add the 350 V8 also. Many different 16.5" sizes tires available 8.00, 8.75, 9.50 and 10.5 but the only 16" size tire was 7.50X16 for 1969.The Custom Camper was a minimum equipment package, GM wanted you to order additional options as you needed them. So the original buyer would build up the truck to suit there individiual needs. This is why so many are set up differently from the factory. Some have large mirrors, some have small, some have sliding rear windows some don't, some have side tool boxes etc. I am sure there was a camper options booklet available at the dealer back then.

Factory stock,I was going to say this too,but then I remembered seeing a 6 cylinder custom camper once. I'm sure most buyers got at least the small v8 or larger and a V8 is in the list of "recommended" CC equipment.

Re: 69 Custom Camper C-20

OK Semper,here's how you get the good info.Be prepaired to give your VIN when asked;

Quote:
How do I get the Chevrolet Restoration Pack?
This free packet from Chevrolet Motors is the ultimate reference for your old truck. Have your VIN number handy when contacting them for this free pack.

Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center
Chevrolet Motor Division
General Motors Corporation
P O Box 7047
Troy, Michigan 48007-7047

Phone: 1-800-222-1020

Don't be surprised if it takes 10-15 calls to finally get through. Ask for a "Restoration Package" (it's free in the USA). They will want your Vehicle Identification Number and year for your truck. The restoration package they send includes complete engineering specifications for your year truck, and also a very long list of parts vendors for classic Chevys.

NOTE: The USA Restoration Pack will NOT give you specific information for your individual vehicle, but generic info for the model year of your truck.

Re: 69 Custom Camper C-20

They required "either" an optional 6cyl or optional V8.

As you can see on your SPID,camper wiring, mirrors, and even the nameplate were seperate options.

I bought one of the Canadian Packages and I think it was well worth it for me. I wanted to know everything I could about my year specific truck and got just what I was looking for...Built date, Shipped date, Dealership that received it, and how many produced that year etc. It unfortunate that you state side guys can't get most of that info. Seem to recall the reason was a fire in GM's archives?

Yeah,it's free,for now anyway.
Only Chevy as far as i know. So no V-6 lit. Other than that, they're pretty much the same.

What year are those requirements from?I know in`71 that it requires optional 6 or 8.And,GMCs definately came with V6s.Also,That list doesn`t even mention 16" split rims. That`s what my`71 came with.

Re: 69 Custom Camper C-20

Special-K, What I meant to say was that I requested a GMC resto-pack but they gave me a Chevy and I assumed that GMC wasn't available,so there wouldn't be any literature (I abrieviated it "lit.") on the GMC V-6s. And the rest would be pretty much the same as Chevy anyway,I think.
Mine is from 1969,and I too was puzzled by the lack of split-rim on there. My '69 also came with 16" split-rims. In a 1968 Kelly Blue Book I have it says Camper option included split-rims.-Brian

There are no books like this from GM for GMC. I also tried and they told me it was a no go.

Here is an magazine advertisement which lists a few options to transform the pickup into a camper hauling pickup. I was never into camping, but I always liked the look of a heavy duty pickup set up for hauling.
