Why this Generation Truck?

For me;

I like how easy it is to get to everything when the hood is up.

I love the curves.

It's nostalgic because my grandpa had one of this generation.

I was born in 65, so was my truck.

I like the different lines and just the overall look. When I finally decided to get out of the "newer" stuff I looked at a lot of older vehicles. I knew I wanted something different. The hood setup, the body lines were important, also the fact that theres sites like this that make it somewhat easy to get information and parts for it. I ended up with a 64 Suburban and I can't say I've ever seen one in person aside from car shows and meets.

Nothing else looks like it; VERY hard to get confused for another Brands truck as the f*rds and dodges of the day were very different.

Can fit pretty much anything under the hood.

Along time ago i saw my buddy's and fell in love with em, and theres three other guys in my car club that have 50's cars and two of the guys also had 60-66 trucks ,so it was going to be also like a truck club, but im the only one left with a truck...i liked the 60's era trucks the most chevy or ford and already owned a ford car and figured why not have a chevy also......i tend to cuss out ford more when im working on them

Guess I didn't really pick mine, it was my grandpa's truck. It was his pride and joy, so I'm just trying to get it back to the way I remember. Cool trucks though, really enjoy driving it.

I think these were the last cars/trucks built "function follows form" for lack of a better term.
The extravagance of the 50's was over, but these trucks still had something about them. Styling trends were on a serious down turn. Designing a car or truck with a concave mid section, just for the sake of style, was not being done anymore due to costs.
After these, it seems as though every car and truck was square and boring. Even the Cadillac lost it's fins.
Cars may have gotten faster from the factory but, I think they lost their soul.
Since this is the 67-72 truck forum, I will state that these are just my stupid opinions.

They are old enough to be clearly vintage, not so old as to be a relic. For me, the generations before or after don't fit as well into that criteria.

I don't pick my vehicles they pick me, and for some reason I keep gotng back in body styles. I had my 73 short step side then my 69 long fleet, my 60 short step bbw, and now my 58 long step. If I keep this up I'll be riding a horse in no time.

Yes,

These were the last of the curves.

Also,

Old enough to be a classic, young enough to upgrade with newer generation stock parts.

Another thing that makes these trucks a pivot point in time is the 'drop frame'.

my best friends dad had one when i was growing up he almost never drove it but i do remember riding it sometimes when he would take us to get candy at the convienient store i about cried when his wife got it in thier divorce and sold it for dirt cheap

My Mom drove us kids around in her '63. I had to have one too.

When I was young one of the cool guys had a choptop 64 Chevy Stepside and I always loved that truck..........now years later I have one!

These trucks are all their own, very distinct lines.

Dad bought mine in '88 and gave it to me in '95 when I started driving, so it was/is my first car.......and I think they're one of the best looking body styles gm ever came out with

My favorite body style hands down.
Kinda like a factory custom. built in sunvisor, cool over hang over back glass, fleetside looks low at stock height, etc etc.....

This is at a dead stop.
Half throttle and in drive.
She fish tailed a little in 1st and 2nd..
Got hard on her once before and I was all over the place...
That's it..... no more of that.
These tires are very expensive especially when you have to run tubes in them. So no more chirping & smoking tires for me.

for me the classic look of these trucks is awsome , sorta the last ones with some real curves or lines. they look good no matter how you style them , super low or bone stock . they just look plane good. crazy paint or classic patina , you gotta love em

A buddy bought a 66GMC that someone rat rodded...I loved the look of the truck so a few months later I bought one, although my intention was not to rat rod it but rather do a resto-rod of sorts. Keep it old school but with some new school touches and safety upgrades
