Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
Thats a frustrating part to order, as there could be so many different styles. I bought the braided one from autozone, but i dont like it. It touched the + on my alternator and almost caught fire. Maybe better off bending your own line..

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
I purchased one for my 72 big block and it wasn't even close to fitting. I ended up just making my own.

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
Any chance your fuel pump is not correct? Maybe someone did a junk yard swap on the pump and line at some point in time.

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
Just go to an autoparts store and buy some 3/8th fuel line and bend it to fit then reflare the ends.

the "riginal" that u r thyin to match up appears to b a homemade job installed sumtime in the past 40years
pre bent lines do require some tweaking to fit right

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
I also believe there is a difference between A/C and non A/C fuel pumps on 71 / 72 350's. The fuel line would certainly be different also because the A/C fuel pump version has a return and a different can and also has the fuel line outlet orientated in a different location.
I would be willing to bet the line you bought is for a non A/C fuel pump. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par.../N-ipkdrZ8vcz2 I looked at AutoZone and Napa web sites and they both list a 2 line and 3 line fuel pump. The three line is the one with the long can and I believe is for A/C equiped trucks. It appears to be about 4-5 inches deeper than the 2 line fuel pump. And then again, I could be totally wrong here. Good luck. Last edited by TBONE1964; 05-28-2013 at 03:15 PM. |

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
This is a all ORIGINAL truck that my grandfather bought new and it is a 72 350 4v with air and does have the long can fuel pump with return. The new line is not long enough and bent wrong. The one on Classic Industies website says fits all models and the one it shows in pic is longer and looks right http://www.classicindustries.com/tru...s/tpc7101.html

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
Well it appears that classic industries has never had to install this line on a truck with A/C. You have to remember that they are just a supplier to many vendors.
You have two options from here. One is to find a vendor that understands there is a difference in these fuel lines or, get the material and tools you need and replicate your original or have someone else replicate it for you. As mentioned, even with the correct replacement, you may have some tweaking to do but not much. |

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
I wish I had seen this post before I ordered the part from Classic Industries. They are still selling this fuel line as a fit for all 350 Chevrolet trucks. Their tech support seems to not know anything about this issue even to this day.

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
Inline Tube has/had the same issue with their 1969 - 292 K10 carb to fuel pump line.
They sold me one they claim is off an original pattern but it did not fit (over 6 inches short). Drops down right over the 292 motor mount which lead me to believe it is for a 230 or 250 since that is where the pump is on those motors (not on the 292). They disagreed with my assertion. Their line did fit great from the carb to the distributor though. Picture 1 and 2 is where their line was supposed to fit to pump. 3rd is my original (had rust pitting, reason for wanting new one). 4th is their line to carb which was actually a cleaner fit (shape) than my original. After some back and fourth with Inline Tube, they requested I send my original to them so they could make me a new one and they will now have the pattern (sent pictures and VIN, model etc.) The only way to solve these problems is to make sure the vendors have the right patterns. Although it is costly to us (in my case, $60 to ship to them), the pattern will now be on file so the next guy gets the right one. Luckily, Inline Tube is willing to do this for the customers and for the hobby,. Only negative in this experience for me was the fact I ordered what Inline claimed to be a direct fit piece and wasn't. I had to pay to return theirs and mine whilst they get a free pattern. |

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
That looks like it’s for a 250 not a 292

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
Since I have a 4 barrel Edelbrock on an Offy intake on my 292, it wouldn't fit anyway.
They should have reimbursed you for the shipping.

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
InLine Tube finishes strong! After I returned their line and my pattern, InLine made me a new line and it fit perfectly. No charge other than my original order and return shipping. All in all, a win.

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
Surprised to hear of issues with Inline-Tube. recently bought transmission cooler lines and fuel pump to carb line for my '72 BB with A/C and all lines fit very well. Nice to hear that Inline was helpful in fixing the problem.

Re: New Fuel pump to carb line wrong from Classic Industries
It's a 292, notice your picture is of a 250 and has the fuel pump in front of the motor mount, the 292 the motor mount is in front of the fuel pump, this is because of the torque of the 292. It looks like they sent him a fuel line for a 250, glad to see he has got it corrected.

On a side note I stopped using Inline tube when I was doing my Chevelle . The rear lines were totally wrong and I got them to check and send new ones and again totally wrong . I made my own then put a ford 9” in and got SS braided lines .
