im about to buy a 1971 C10

welp, the days are closing, and im welling with excitement! i should be picking it up friday evening.

its in "needs restoring" shape, but the first major problem is that it has no air cleaner. i figure i should get one, even if im going to only be moving it around a little here, a little there. i dont plan to even insure it for a while (ill be trailering it home).

im thinking i may just go ahead and get the air cleaner its going to wear when its complete. the enging is a 350, but its not the original 350 (i dont know if that matters for air cleaner selection). but thats about the extent of my knowledge, so i was wondering if anyone had some recommendations about what air cleaner might be nice for my truck.

Re: im about to buy a 1971 C10

welcome to the board and i saw your post on fullsize chevy. glad to see you found the site alright. The 67 to 72 is the best looking GM truck ever IMO. You should start up a build up threade on here and document your progress on it and take lots of pics. We also have a secion for your z71 but i am not sure if it is as good as fullsie chevy. I find that a great forum for newer trucks and this one better for "classics". pole around and check out some of the other build up threades on here for some insporation if you want. There are alot of nice trucks on here!! Also this board has a greats parts section.

Best of luck on the truck and WELCOME.

Also on the air cleaner it depends on your carb.

Engine size does not matter but weather it has a two or four barrel carb does
and also if you want original looks or an open element air cleaner let us know what carb you have and someone here will be more than glad to help

Re: im about to buy a 1971 C10

well i dont know anything about engines, so im about to learn. i plan to just trailer it home anyway, but ill have to run it no-aircleaner to get on the trailer. oh well, cant avoid it.

as soon as i have some idea as to what kind of carb it has, or what kind ill have in the end (depending on my engine block, and whether or not ill be keeping it), ill post again.

thanks for the welcomes! i hope to learn a lot from you guys!

You can run it without the air cleaner to get it on the truck, it won't be a big deal at all as long as there isn't a dust/sand storm as you are doing it. It won't hurt the engine at all. You do want to get something over the carb, if you drop a nut or something else in there, it's going to be a major PIA to pull the maniford to find out where it went.
