Harmonic Balancer ?s

I have a 69swb with 350.... Right now i have a 2 barrell but in the next few months i will have a 4 barrell carb.... I went to Orielly Auto parts to look at new harmonic balancers cause mine wobbles a little.... Well we were looking in the computer and there is 2 different ones.... There is one for the 2 barrell and one for the 4 barrell... is there any differance? Can i put a 4 barrell one on while i have a 2 barrell carb? Thanks!

Re: Harmonic Balancer ?s

I guess I never thought of it that way. In most of my experiences, the balancer depended on what size they were. There were the 6" ones and then there were the 8" ones. Either one will work, as long as you have the appropriate pointer for that size.

Re: Harmonic Balancer ?s

As piecesparts stated there were different diameter balancers. I would suggest measuring your balancer and if it is 8" then the 4 bbl balancer should fit. If your balancer measures 6" then you can either change the pointer setup to enable the use of the 8" or get another 6" balancer.

Re: Harmonic Balancer ?s

before buying a new balancer i'd inspect my crankshaft to make sure it's not worn to where any balancer is going to wobble

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I had a similar incident last week, where my balancer and pulley became loose from the crankshaft. The screw and key that hold the harmonic balancer to the crankshaft came out. This past weekend when I tried installing the balancer it did not go in with pressure. It's pretty loose, does that mean that I have to pull my engine out to replace the crankshaft? I'm going to replace the harmonic balancer first and hopefully it's the balancer that got worn out from the inside and not the crankshaft. Has anyone had this problem before?
