Disc brake swap positive camber issue SOLVED

Hey guys, I recently did a disc brake swap on my '67 C20. Donor parts were from a '73-87 squarebody. After completion, I noticed positive camber without any shims. After Googling it, I saw that some members who did this swap also had the same issues. Here's what I found.

To start off, I wanted to keep the 67 as original as possible. So I used my original upper and lower control arms and front crossmember. These were in better shape anyway than the donor parts. The only parts from the donor I used were the idler arm attachment, drag link and spindles.

After noticing the positive camber, I checked the upper and lower control arm measurements compared to the donor parts and they were the same. Where the difference lied was at the upper control arm attaching bracket. Drum brakes use a bracket that is a casting. Disc brakes use a bracket that is a stamping. The original casting has shoulders at each mounting stud that are quite large compared to the disc brake stamping. There are also pads on the frame side of the casting where it bolts to the frame. These, along with the shoulders around the studs add up to the positive camber problem when compared to the square body stamping. When I switched out the casting for the stamping, my problems were solved. Check photos.

Re: Disc brake swap positive camber issue SOLVED

Interesting bit of information that may save someone down the road some heartache. Thanks for posting your findings!

I'm not sure that the cast piece is a drum brake piece as my 67 Burban has the stamped style. It is a C10 from Fremont truck.

I wonder if the cast ones are C20 or possibly pre-67 left overs that got used on early 67 trucks. Maybe one of the experts here will chime in and correct me.

Check post #10 here:

He has a 1/2 ton 1968 with similar issues. Looks like he has the casting with large shoulders like I do.

Hmmmm...... makes me wonder.

Re: Disc brake swap positive camber issue SOLVED

I am so happy to see someone with the time and patience to dig all the way into this. Thank you for sorting this out. Now I guess I need to sort of the stamped brackets.
I will post on how it turns out. But I can definitely see a thickness difference.
