IPE wood bed
I just laid the planks in the bed tonight, but this is what I'm going to use. It's 5/4 Brazilian Walnut. Can't wait until I mill it and bolt it in for real.

 (kidding ..) My wife is Brazilian and has a sister that lives in Rio. We went there in 2009, the Tour De Brazil as I called it. Pretty crazy place for a SE TN boy .. It was nuts man. But, my point is the wood, granite, etc. It is crazy cheap over there.

I noticed what looks like the Lumber Liquidator sticker on the wood. Is that where you got it? I tried there looking for a bed floor and was told they didn't have anything large enough.

X2 on where did you source that from? Iwouldnt have to ever redo my bed if I put Ipe in. That is some tough stuff.

Wait... is it Ipe or Brazilian Walnut... two completely different woods... It looks like Ipe but your first post said "5/4 Brazilian Walnut" Ipe's common name is South American Ironwood. I have worked with it for years and it is an amazing wood and finishes very nice, and is what I will be using for its density properties.

So...your saying you have 30 and you only need 7-8 for your truck bed. So...I was just wondering if...per chance...if you happen to have any remaining that you might be able to part with...for a nominal fee of course? I could manage to give you at least what you paid for it...5 years ago.

 I guess I have been wrong for a long long time then... I used to turn bowls and other items from what I was told was Brazilian Walnut. And I have used Ipe for decks, patios, furniture, ect and the two woods looked nothing alike, so I never thought twice about it.... learn something new everyday...

I've known of iron wood all my life and only in the last 10 years or so have known of Ipe since people started doing porch floors with it. Now I've learned they are the same thing. That stuff would be heavy to ship. It should be available from a real lumber yard,if any still exist in your area.

We have been using ipe wood on benches and tables in rainy Vancouver and other than being heavy to handle it is bullet proof and looks good.
