What do you make of this???

Keith this one may be for you...

1978 K10 Chevy. 2 Owner, 2 Driver truck. Never wrecked or bumped... One of those few trucks that every day of its life is accounted for since new.

During a brake master cylinder change we spilled brake fluid on the frame. Before we could wipe it up it peeled the black paint and revealed this... this orange paint. Closer look shows orange paint on big parts of the frame... Any ideas???

We will be pulling the bed or cab shortly to verify vin(s). But I am 100% sure its never been swapped.

Puzzled for sure!

Primer? Or there's more to the story than what the 1st owner told you.

IDK... This truck belonged to my next store neighbor growing up. We lived next store to each other between 76 and 92 when I moved out. The truck was parked in 95 with a bad brakes.

Re: What do you make of this???

On a more serious note - frame rails come in already painted black. There's no engine orange paint anywhere in the final assembly plant or, more specifically, anywhere near where the frames are put together.

So - seems to me somebody sprayed their frame orange and then sprayed more black over the top.

Well that is what i thought... All I could come up with was maybe this frame was used as an advertising/brochure frame and then installed in a truck. (but by 78 why would be the question...lol!) I've been busy and not had time to investigate it further. But like I have said before, I've parted out 500 squares and never seen this before.

If this was a truck I didn't know so well, I would have not even asked... But in its life, the longest I didn't see the truck was when I or him were on vacation...
