Lokar cables- what length?

I'm needing a new throttle cable and I'm trying to decide on what length of cable I need 24" or 36"? I'm going with Lokar bracket and cable and later a kickdown cable. I need to find out what length I need.

Also I've seen some Lokar knockoffs on Ebay. Has anyone ever used the knock offs and anyone know if they're as good as the original?

Brandon, I will be waiting for an answer as well...I need some too.

If nobody reples, and since you cut-to-fit with Lokar......I would just get the long one to be safe.

I was thinking the same thing Jeff. I was wondering if Mike has used them on his truck. Do you still happen to have his parts list somewhere on the website?

Re: Lokar cables- what length?

No I haven't used them but this post is extremely funny. I just ordered some today from Summit. I ordered the polished 36" throttle cable, along with the polished 700R4 kickdown cable and the mounting bracket for them.

I didn't know which length to buy either so I figured since you have to cut to fit anyway, I'd go with the longest one. Looking at the truck, a 24" cable my very well be long enough but I wanted to make sure. When I get them I will be able to say for sure.

I'll keep you informed on how it goes.

LOL Mike that is too funny. Definately let us know how everything worked out. I'm curious on the bracket since I need a TH350 cable instead of the 700r4 like yours.

Will do. They should be here tomorrow. I don't know when I'll have the chance to get them installed though.

I know the feeling. BTW: Smokey from CT was asking about you the other day when we had lunch. He said to tell you hi next time I saw you on the board.

Of all the folks over at CT, I guess Smokey is the only one I miss. He is one great guy. How is he doing? I know he was having some health problems. Tell him I said hi back.

Re: Lokar cables- what length?

Got my cables and bracket today. They look really kool and well made. I will probably get around to installing them this weekend and let you know how everything goes, as well if a 24" throttle cable will work.

He's doing pretty good. His health still gives him trouble from time to time but he's battling it pretty well. We compare stories about our situations we've battled.

Back to the cables I'm changing mine because the one I have actually cut past the insert it goes between the firewall and is starting to cut into the firewall itself. The cable still looks okay but I want something a bit better setup.

Re: Lokar cables- what length?

OK. I finally got around to installing my cables. They work great and look good. Looks much better than the stock mounting bracket. A 24" cable is all you need for the throttle cable. I bought a 36" cable and used less than a foot. Where the cable goes through the firewall I had to use some fender washers. The hole left where the stock cable went through was too big. You only need 5/16". Also, on my Q-jet, where the bracket mounts, I had to grind a little off the side of the base so it would fit. No biggy though. All in all it went pretty smooth. Biggest thing was getting the Lokar TV cable set. It took at least 10 trips up the road before I finally got it right.

Re: Lokar cables- what length?

Ya, I put a 24" on mine a few weeks ago. It was plenty long enough. I only used about a foot as well. Works great, I used some washers on the firewall hole as well.

Looks great Mike. Thanks for letting us know what we need. I'll order them and install them.

Re: Lokar cables- what length?

Mike, what all exactly did you order? Did you get throttle AND kickdown? Lokar has a couple different brackets as well, which ones did you get (if any)?

I need basically everything since, well...you know, starting from scratch.

Re: Lokar cables- what length?

Jeff,

I got the SRK-4000 carb bracket. The KDP-2700HT polished 700R4 kickdown cable. The TCP-1000HT36 polished universal 36" throttle cable. You only need the 24", so get the TCP-1000HT instead.

On my Q-jet, as I said above, I had to grind a little of the base away on the side so the bracket would fit over the carb mounting stud. I also ground off the back of the old throttle/TV cable studs on the throttle arm and mounted the ones. I used 2 fender washers to mount the cable to the firewall. You know what fender washers are, right? They are big washers with small holes in them. I think the ones I used were around 1" with a 5/16" hole in them. 1" covers the old hole completely.
