71 Chevy K10 Step Side Longbed spare tire

Hi, New to the forum and to classic truck ownership. I need to figure out where the spare tire goes, I think on the passenger side between the cab and the rear wheel. I don't have a bracket but there are 2 holes drilled where I assume a bracket goes. More importantly where I might get a 15x8, six lug rim, most I find are 5 lug.

I'm not sure the factory ever did that. Most I am familiar with mount under the bed back between the rear wheels. All the brackets and parts are available. Getting the spare in or out is a royal pain, but is more secure than just sitting in the bed. But how often do you need to access the spare?

Hey, Thanks for the quick reply, I'll take a look and check it out. Any thoughts on where to get a rim that's 6 bolt 15x8 for that year. Thanks!

Does your fender have the cutout for the tire?

The pic below is a shortbed. There's actually two brackets as longbed and shortbeds mounted the tire a little differently, and the cuts outs were different as well, the longbed fender was cut even lower than the shortbed fender.

Re: 71 Chevy K10 Step Side Longbed spare tire

I think the OP is talking about an IN bed spare tire mount bracket which is RPO P13 which from what I've found does bolt down passenger side behind the cab and in front of rear wheel inside bed.

I would use the search engine on this site and click the results strictly within this site right under where you type in what your searching for and type in "in bed spare tire mount" and it should come up with exactly what your looking for as well as pics to show you what your looking at. I think the factory assembly manual has information with pics in it too.

Welcome to the site!...it's addicting!

Just saw the OP is talking about a step side...oops! Not sure if they ever put those inside the bed or not. Someone here will know! Sorry I might have misspoke on the previous post.

His truck is a step side. Stepsides never had an in bed spare carrier, only the fleetsides.

Lots of pics of the fleetside carrier here:
