Redneckery in the Third Degree
I have a bad habit of liking to redneck stuff in my truck (maybe it's my way of rebelling for going to a college prep high school and being in upper class suburbia), like my tachometer, which I wired the light to the ignition switch and shoved all other wires through the firewall window washer reservoir tube hole, or the gigantic house speakers wired through house switches and sent to the truck box (which itself is mounted on 4x4s and plywood, and an entirely plywood bed). I also love to fabricate and weld metal (maybe create a water-driven preheater for the cold morning airflow?), which brings me to my idea.
I have the 6 cylinder, but really love the look of dual mufflers from V8s. I've researched the 4-and-2 and the 3-3 combinations, but I'm far too cheap to bother with all new manifolds. So I thought, why not just drop the pipe, punch a hole in the side, and weld a new rear-pointed diagonal pipe (and of course do all the new pipe holders for the frame), then bolt it back to the manifold and frame? Has anyone done this or something similar?

Re: Redneckery in the Third Degree
Do you just want the look of dual pipes out the back/sides? Something seen when driving by? If so, why not just hang a shell underneath. If you're not after performance or anything and just want the look, it wouldnt need to be functional.

Re: Redneckery in the Third Degree
You could also do what was popular back in the 50's and 60's and split the manifold and weld on a second outlet.

Re: Redneckery in the Third Degree
Before I swapped the motor in mine, it just had a y pipe that split it from single to duals.
My dad's truck had a single in dual out muffler. Both work pretty well! |

Re: Redneckery in the Third Degree
they use to cut the manifold off right behind the centre box part and braze in blocking plates in each opening. then would braze on another outlet on the rear section
