what do you mean there aint no step sides i got one in my backyard along with a fleetside both are shortbed both are wood floor here in cali you get them all day long those and longbed fleets

most of the guys around here like their fleets better. that's why you see them a lot on this site. but if you drive around my city you'll see just as many stepsides

Stepsides are what I like best, probably because my first truck was a stepper. Around here it seems most people like the fleets best, in fact very few stepsides are around.
I have a '67 swb stepper and a '71 lwb stepper, but those are the only two I have seen on the road around here. Rarely do I even spy one in a yard, pasture or barn. I have a friend that has a '70 GMC swb stepper south of here some that is his daily driver, I guess he is in his early 60's. Also down that way there is a swb stepper with a newer bed. I have only seen one other lwb stepper around here and it is a '67 setting in a guys side yard. I ask him now and then if he wants to sell it, but he keeps saying no. It is not a runner and the bed is piled full of junk. Here is a picture of the '71 lwb stepper, it is not pretty but it is a daily driver. The front end is a little lower now since we put the 454 in it. The '67 is in pieces now so I did not attach a picture.

Step fan myself,though I have never owned one.I haven't ever had a fleet either though.I see a few around here but not many.People like the fleets better.There are 2 steppers within a mile or so of my house but neither belongs to a car guy.

I like both short fleets and steps. Maybe I'll get both beds and swap back and forth from time to time....hmmm

I guess I am one of the reasons why there is one less, although the guy I sold my bed to put it on a 2wd show truck that he built. So I guess that would be a wash since his was a fleet.

Only problem with a step is the singlewall bed, I always worry about dents. But the step is really handy. I hate not being able to get right in other trucks. And trucks these days are 7 feet tall..

I think a lot has to do with preference. I have a LWB Fleetside but that just because its what I found when I was looking. I like both style trucks. Although I would bet there were more Fleetsides produced than Stepsides.

 The short steps are actually quite abundant, especially the 67 models. In 67 the short step 2wd's outsold the fleetside 2wd trucks. Fleetsides just barely edged out the stepsides in 68, and then the gap began to widen until 72, the fleets sold quite a few more trucks than the stepsides. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a.../t-104816.html

I don't know about the fenders, but I know the spare tire brackets are different between the SWB & LWB fenders.
