Finally! Wheels have shipped!

I finally got some good news about my wheels and had to share it with people who might appreciate it. Ordered the new Budniks for my '68 on July 11th. After several phone calls every week, I finally received shipping confirmation today, 14 weeks later! Tires have been sitting in the garage since July 17th! I'm sure the next few days will seem even longer as I wait for UPS to show up, but they're finally coming! Of course, I'll post pics as soon as they come out of the boxes.

The worst part is that when I ordered them they said "6 to 8 weeks, we've been running around 6 weeks lately". Of course, I think it'll be worth it in the end!

Also I looked at the old 04 post of your bag setup. I have a 67 chevy swb that I really want to bag and your setup with the air bags in place of your front and back coils. What is in your setup? Im buying from suicidedoors and I can't find any part numbers when I do a search. I want to do a Slam bag I think. Would very much apreciate it if you had a part number for the front and rear brackets. Do you like the setup? Does it get very low?

I figured 18's look too small and 20's look too big in front (in my opinion) so since I'm having the wheels built, why not get something a little different?

My plan had always been to run Torq-Thrust II's, but I saw a post on here a few months ago that showed over a dozen trucks....and they all had Torq-Thrust II's! So I found a wheel that I like (OK, love!) and figured I'd take being different to the next level.

....and boy do I feel your pain with the waiting on wheels thing!!!

That's kinda the theme I have in mind....old style with a modern flair. Old style wheel in modern big inch sizes, 1968 body lines with modern air suspension, etc.

Excellent choice on wheel style. I went to a medium size car show last summer and it seems like darn near every car and truck had the TTII's on them. It was like they issued them at the gate before you drove in

Hey what backspacing are you running on those budnick wheels

Front 19 x 8 with 5.25" backspacing
Rear 20 x 10 with 4.75" backspacing

I have a '71 with 20x10 and 295/40zr20's, I originally had 4.75" backspacing and it put the wheel too close to the outside wheel well lip. It wouldn't work with my airbags because the wheel wouldn't tuck inside the wheel well when all aired out. I ordered new wheels with a 6" backspace so that i could tuck those huge 295/40zr20's and put the bed wheel well over the tires onto the rim.

They were the best I could find in the sizes I want, plus the tread pattern looks killer! They're recommended very highly on TireRack.com.

Darren may be right, I had 4.75 back spacing on 20x10's in my 68 with the 1.5 narrow rear end. I ended up modifying inner tubs so the rear tires would clear when the truck was air'ed out.

Nope..... 10's w/6" BS won't work on the 68 12bolt housing. It would definitely need a mini-tub. If you want it really low & plan to use 10" wide wheels/29" tire, it's going to need some clearancing one side or the other.

FWIW, my plan is 10's w/5" BS, mini-tubs, & the bedside clearance trick so it won't rub on either side. I should have between .500 outside & .750" clearance inside.

"The Plan" is to clearance the part of the bed between where the fenderwell bolts and the outside of the fenderwell if necessary. That way I can keep everything looking "stock" and not have to extend the wheeltubs at all. See the circled area in the attached pic. I don't think I'll have to do it unless, like Scot says, I want it REALLY low.

Scoti, MrShelley...... what I meant to say was modify the bedside instead of mini-tub. Like the picture that MrShelley has shown is the area that I reworked on my truck and I'm in the process of doing the same on Filmguys truck. I agree the 6 inch bs would be a little to much and the 5's would let the truck go down a little more but I still think they will rub on the top side.

Hey Danny, I'll try to explain the best I can. I have pictures but they are on my laptop or my other computer at home. Anyway, the area that MrShelley circled, at the bottom by the fender lip you will see a couple of tack welds that hold the "inner" piece on, you will need to cut or grind these off. Now right below the area were the tub bolts to the bedsides "also in the circled area" you will need to cut just below this area. I made "I have pictures somewhere" a inner tub that goes straight against the bedside that gives you a lot more clearance on the inside. You will have to weld all the way around the top by the tub bolts and then spot weld back to the lip of the wheel opening...... clear as mud? The pictures will help, trust me!

After thinking about it for a minute (it usually takes longer) I remember that the pictures are already on the site....duh! so I moved them over here......sorry MrShelley about jacking your thread....

I knew what you were saying but Danny's 6" of BS won't (shouldn't) really need the bedside mod but will need the tubs widend because of the clearance toward the backside of the wheel from the greater back-spacing.

My truck had 8" wheels w/4" BS & managed to buzz the inner side of the tubs (the swirl marks let me know). I want a 10" wheel & know I don't have room for 2+ inches of wheel/tire toward the bedside...... some of mine had to go inward. So I'm doing both: a small mini-tub & sectioning out the interfering bedside area as needed.

Guess what UPS delivered today while I was at work? I got home and found 4 big boxes marked "Budnik" sitting on the front porch! That's right, UPS left them sitting on the porch! I can't believe they just left them unattended without a signature or anything. Thank God I live in a neighborhood full of honest people and nosey old ladies!

No damage (been over them with a fine toothed comb) and everything is correct as far as size, backspacing and bolt pattern. The only thing wrong is that I specifically requested black lugs and got chrome. I'll see about swapping them out.

Here's a couple quick and dirty pics. I'll get the tires mounted tomorrow, put them on the '68 Saturday and post a ton of pictures then. Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming!!!
