2 questions about 67s

Did 67s ever have side marker lights? or did they only start in 68.
Was the small window cabs only available in 67?

Side markers first showed up on '68, you could also get a big back window in '67 it was an option "panoramic window" was called.

I have also noticed some small window cabs on bigger trucks like C-50 and C-60 some as late as '81

#1, No.

#2, Debatable. The factory literature does not list a Panoramic (large) rear window as an option for 68 as it was in 67 (in 67 the small window was standard RPO). People claim they have documented small window 68's. So, was the big window an option in 68 and the small window standard, no. Were all 68's big windows? Probably not.

FYI, series 40-60 trucks used the small window cab after 67, that much is for sure.

Just for information purposes:

My 68 has an option "Panoramic window" right on the build sheet. I can get the option number tonight if your interested.

Dan, is there anyway you can get a picture of the option sheet on that 68? Not calling BS on this, but if the VIN in fact shows a Panoramic window on the same sticker as the 68 VIN, that would shut all of us up on it.

Longhornman,

I can get picture of the build sheet as the glove box sticker is long gone.

I still don't know what that proves??? This is a wierd one!

same here

I don't have the sticker from the glove box, but my build sheet lists a panoramic window. I'll try to get it scanned (hard to do at work and I don't have a scanner).

That would be awsome if either of you can prove it.
If the VIN on the build sheet says 68, and it lists the option, then we would all know for a fact that it was an option.
I know I've seen too many trucks that have been pieced together to take things like that at face value. There is a 72 in town, and the driver swears that his small window is a 72 item. You can see the paint under the primer on the cab don't match the bed though.
I think it would be good info to have proof on, that is all.

I don't know that it would really prove anything if a 68 had the option listed on the build sheet. It could be that all 68's had the panoramic window listed automatically. It would be interesting to see it though.

Here it is listed on my 68 GMC build sheet. *A10 Panoramic R Window Vin #CE10D-ZB15613 Model #CE1590D. I tend to think like toms68cst thinks though, it was listed on all of the build sheets in 68. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

the thing with build sheets from GM is that they list things as options even though they are standard. Kinda like in first gen montes, all the build sheets list disc brakes and clocks as options, even though they are standard

The interesting thing is, the window has an astric by the window listing, along with by the mirrors...and the mirrors were in fact standard.
The confusion continues.

same thing

Yeah, mine reads the same *A10 PANORAMIC. But if the * meant that it was standard, why doesn't the paint color (520 LT YELLOW) have one, or the Z52 FULL FOAM SEAT, or the L25 L6 ENG-292 CU IN?

It is a mystery.

I'll take my build sheet to work tomorrow and scan it.

292 and foam seat were options...not standard, and there was no standard color.

dummies

What a bunch of dummies we are (except Wes). Look in the lower right hand corner of the build sheet. There is a legend. #=Body Shop; %=Trim Shop; *=Standard.

I guess that answers that.

Here is clear picture of the area gr8scott51 is talking about. So, I guess that answer to the question is large rear windows were the standard. So either small windows became the option, or anyone seeing a small window cab on a 68 must be seeing a truck that has had the cab changed. As a lot of people can know, that cabs and vins can be changed easily. So just because the vin matches the title and the 68 has a small window doesn't make it stock. I would have to see the vin number on the cab, frame, and build sheet along with something like the lack of the panoramic rear window option on the build sheet to convince me that a small window on a 68 cab was the real thing for that 68. Or someone would have to show me the small window option number for a 68. I think that I got that all strait... LOL . WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
