Re: fuel tanks

Not generally a good idea. 87 TBI pump runs 9is PSI, if you have a carbed motor it'll be looking fo 3-5 usually. And stock mechanical pumps generally don't like to be overpressurized from the rear.

Re: fuel tanks

I am no expert, but i thought you could bypass the mechanical one all together?? Also could a adjustable fuel regulator get you down to 3 psi?

Again i am just shooting in the dark...

Re: fuel tanks

Ok I've been running this truck for over a month and it seems to be starving for fuel there is times it will die out of no were and I have to pull a line and crank to get it to get fuel to the carp again my thought is to run a new line from the tank and throw an aftermarket inline fuel pump on with a vented cap to eliminate this issue? It's a wood truck so I'd like to not be dead on The mountain with 2 chord of wood in the back

You don't want too much pressure since your truck is made of wood it may catch fire very easy. A vented cap will make it even more likely to burn.
A wood truck is much more likely to die than a non-wood (steel) truck.
Just be careful!!

Re: fuel tanks

any chance the sender isn't long enough?
does it have a return line?
wraprail may have a point ,which cap did you use 87 or 77?
what kind of carb,fuel filter?
my stock carb on my 79 just started to suck the backflow valve out of the fram filter
would leave me dry

Re: fuel tanks

if you have blocked off pollution hoses etc,a vented cap might be better now
could try loosening up the cap......

Re: fuel tanks

It needs some kind of vent. My 75 no-emission just has one line from each tank to fuel pump and a small plastic vent thing on the other sender connection. When I replaced the 30+ year old gas line on one of the tanks, the plastic vent crumbled. Tried just plugging it. Got your symptoms on that tank. Couldn't find a vented cap at the local parts stores. Put a small hole in the existing cap. That solved the vent issues but since those tanks don't have the little flap door the unleaded tanks have, kept getting gas seeping out of the vent hole. Went back to an unvented cap and just put a plastic L fitting on the vent hose to replace plastic vent. Fixed the problem and have had any issues with water.

Re: fuel tanks

I believe that axle vents are pretty much the same part...
