Looking for recommendations for a quiet performance muffler...

Posted via Mobile Device
As the title states, looking for a quiet muffler, little to no interior resonance in 2.5 or 3 inch sizes. Ideally would like to be able to have a conversation in the cab and not be so loud that I'm worried about my daughters hearing...

I put a set of Dynomax VT's on my last later model silverado because those trucks have bad drone with just about anything else. They have valves inside and do what they advertise. Idle speed up to light throttle no noise. Get on it, noise.

Got a very very high flow cat and a Thrush welded muffler. Nice rumble, a little much in the parking garage, though. On the highway, not so bad.

I had them for 6 months...not long enough but they have a lifetime warranty. Exhaust guy was impressed, I loved them!

Re: Looking for recommendations for a quiet performance muffler...

I got 2 Aero Exhaust mufflers, theyr huge shiny and suppousedly flow +5 cfm more than open pipes. They are super quiet to about 3000rpm and then they start a deep performance rumble, but still not loud at all. But too quiet, gonna have to ditch them and find some Cherry Bombs lol yea I know im a redneck.

Re: Looking for recommendations for a quiet performance muffler...

Not really possible to have a muffler flow more than an open pipe. The hooker aero chambers are nice as well as the borla xrswhich are basicly a magnaflow

Re: Looking for recommendations for a quiet performance muffler...

What about pypes or magnaflow. Are they a bit on the noisey side? I have heard the videos but that is not like hearing it first hand or being in the cab going down the road. Those are the two I am most interested in.

Pypes are a nice muffler. They aren't loud but they def don't whisper. They have since clean note to them. Magnaflows always have been nice. Don't expect them to last forever though. They are still a cheap made muffler with a $100 name

Re: Looking for recommendations for a quiet performance muffler...

I went from a flowmaster 40 to a magnaflow and now to a large chamber Gibson. Its nice sounding, changed the lope to where you can hear the valves more. I guess what I really want to get rid of is the droning in the cab. Drives me nuts! I have an abbreviated exhaust that dumps in front of the axle and Im wondering if a full exit tailpipe would get rid of the droning? Im considering the Spintech 3000's as well... not thrilled on the price though.

Ditto the the Magnaflows. My buddy used to own a muffler distributorship, they also made knock-off chambered versions of the popular series that cost next to nothing to make. You couldn't tell the difference...

The spintechs are priced for thier material. They are Prob some of the best priced mufflers I know. But having the exhaust exit out from under the vehicle will make a HUGE difference

I also have a dynamax vt on my truck , I love it , no drone! I have had flowmasters, glasspacks, I was tired of the drone. now I can listen to a conversation in the truck with the windows rolled up or down. they also sound really good under throttle!!

Re: Looking for recommendations for a quiet performance muffler...

Flowmaster 50 series Delta Flow. Run the pipes out behind the rear tires or to the bumper. Still a nice rumble, but still civilized and not annoying.

Great quality too. Had a set that was 10+ years old and probably a good 200K miles on them. Had to have the pipes patched a few times but the mufflers never rusted or increased in volume. The muffler guy who cut them off when the exhaust was getting replaced asked if he could have them to use on his own truck.

do you short pipes point straight down?
i find a slight angle helped my Cherrys get a little quieter(about a 45 angle)
otherwise point them straight out the sides

I've already bought a pair of magnaflows but finally listened to the spintech 3000's on youboob. They do sound pretty good. I can't find enough clips of them to decide, though.

Re: Looking for recommendations for a quiet performance muffler...

I have a set of welded Thrush's on my truck. Manifolds, 2" true duals, 2 1/2" mufflers and 5" tips. At idle it's not loud at all, even 4-5K RPMs it's a little loud, but not obnoxious loud, but sounds saweeet!!! And only $30 at Advance Auto...

Re: Looking for recommendations for a quiet performance muffler...

I have the exhaust dumped with an extended turndown. Im seriously going to consider tailpipes.... as I get older, the things I used to not mind start to bother me like the drone. Maybe I just got used to the civility of my car... Long story short, I had a full exhaust with headers that were stored at a buddies house. He moved and the exhaust stayed, so now Im back to square one. It was 2.5" duals with an X pipe, 18" reversed flutted glasspacks from Summit with turndowns and it sounded really nice, not obnoxious to say the least. Now that my truck is on the road Im trying to scrounge together an inexpensive exhaust that's quiet for the time being. I don't want the expense of duals when I plan on running 3-4" SINGLE exhaust from a large single turbo in the future.

Inexpensive and quiet I would say that the thrush welded series are your best bang for the buck.
