Looking for Projector headlamps for GMC

Anyone make a decent looking (not the harley style with a hundred different leds, cheap halo rings, and a bunch of extra garbage like this: http://www.visionxusa.com/product/in...led-headlight/) for the GMC 4 headlight trucks?

I have seen the stock looking halogen upgrade like this:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NZUQ56/ref=wl_it_dp_o... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NZUQ56/ref=wl_it_dp_o...
And the eBay ones like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-3-4-5-75-R...hVV416&vxp=mtr

But are there any projector style headlamps out there?

Re: Looking for Projector headlamps for GMC

I know these are not projectors, but these are hands down the best seal beam style headlights I have ever used.

I have the E-codes on my truck. Night and day difference compared with standard Sylvania halogens.

Re: Looking for Projector headlamps for GMC

How about these? The round version is what I have for my C10 Suburban build. Very good quality.

I used these for my 65 Buick Skylark Wagon. The Diamond cut / crystal lens housings are garbage. The're bright to look at, but they don't focus the light pattern down the road at all.

I have a Projector aftermarket housing, and they aren't work squat either.

Re: Looking for Projector headlamps for GMC

I'm not familiar with any high quality projector style lamps for your GMC. I do have a couple suggestions though.

If you haven't done the headlamp relay mod, start with that to ensure full voltage to your headlamps. It really does make a difference.

Consider E-code halogen lamps. They are leaps & bounds better than any sealed beam unit. The Hellas mentioned above by beaterku are good lamps but I prefer Cibies for their better beam pattern -- somewhat wider high beams with much less vertical light means more light on the road. Cibies are harder to find and a little more expensive though. They come with H4 halogen bulbs for hi/low beam, and dedicated hi beams have H1 bulbs. With all four lit up, the result is dazzling.

Only source I am sure of is http://www.danielsternlighting.com/ but there may be others, possibly at a lower price. Amazon carries the 7" Cibies (cheap, too) but they don't seem to have 5.75" lamps.

Good luck with whatever you decide on!

I see the cibie's every now and then. I'm really considering the Hellas at this point though.

I rewired the headlights with 12 gauge wire, new connectors, relays and fuses. Never did drive it before I did all that though, so I really can't say if it made a difference or not.

I did happen to run across some, but they aren't DOT approved. http://www.code510.com/5-75-inch-pro...with-halo.html Any thoughts on these? Not sure why they wouldn't be DOT approved.

Re: Looking for Projector headlamps for GMC

Congrats on the relays! I'm sure you'll love Hellas if you get them. They are much easier to find (and cheaper) than Cibies.

Frankly, I wouldn't worry about non-DOT headlamps. Properly aimed, they won't attract any unwanted attention.

I have no opinion on those projector lamps, simply because I don't know anything about them or their optics. They might be good, or they might be junk like so many cheaper lamps.

Re: Looking for Projector headlamps for GMC

I do believe you can order Cibie headlights from your local toyota dealer. I was doing some checking for my GMC and a coworker told me about a website that has OEM part numbers. I had to find the correct part number, but they were available. I checked within the last year or so, but I don't remember the price. If I have time tomorrow I'll see if I can find out where I got all the information.

Re: Looking for Projector headlamps for GMC

Not sure about the size, but I bought these for my 68. They are 7" round. They are by far the nicest lights you can get. Yes they are expensive, but after trying the cheaper ones I realize I should have just gotten these to begin with. The pattern is awesome, zero light above the cut line, will not blind others, crazy amount of light. You don't need projectors, just properly built lenses.

I bought the GE ones, but the Truck-lite ones look exactly the same. I paid about $190 each.

Not exactly what you're asking for but these are (I think) H4 housings from LMC with KenSun BiXenon HIDs. They look crooked but its just the short focal length of the picture.

Re: Looking for Projector headlamps for GMC

I plan on trying LED lights out one day, but the JW Speakers are supposed to be good

https://www.theretrofitsource.com/fu...l#.VnTQaRUrJhE

I have a few other solutions for the 7", have a H4 housing with an LED bulb and TRS also has a 7" HID projector setup

Black flame customs. They can put a projector in anything. They did my super duty lights. Not cheap but looks and works great.

Ran across these Cibies while Googling, cheapest I've seen by far but no idea what shipping charges run. $56 each and they have H4 high/low and H1 high beam, just what your 4-eye needs.

On my '70 GMC I used the projector headlights designed for the E30 M3's. Right size, glass & DOT approved. Search 1990 E30 M3 headlights... Mine are by Hella.

Re: Looking for Projector headlamps for GMC

Just updating everyone,

I decided to go with the Hella H4 conversion kit. I got two headlamps low/high with bulbs for $77 shipped. I wanted to go with the Cibie's if I couldn't find any decent projector headlamps, but $77 was too good to not try them out.

And to clarify, I don't have anything against non DOT approved stuff, but I wanted something that passed some test somewhere. Like the Hella and Cibie are both E codes so I know that can be aimed without special equipment.

Overall, the beam pattern is good. E codes are different and take a little getting used to. The cutoff is crisp, and the housings seem to be of good quality. Most importantly, they look like they came in the truck.

Re: Looking for Projector headlamps for GMC

Thanks for the update. Sounds great, and that's an excellent price. Mind if I ask where you bought them? If I'm understanding correctly, you got two H4 Hi/Low which is the outer lamps. Did you get any inboard (Hi only) lamps also?

Bought off eBay from a US seller. Shipped out of Indiana, I think. I did get two H4 Hi/Low lamps, with bulbs and boots.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/231668201221

I didn't replace the inner lamps yet. I would like to get some Hellas or Cibies to go in there. Even with just the two new outer lamps the inner ones really look pathetic.

The only sort of negative thing I have to say is that I have aftermarket H4 headlight sockets and the rubber boot pushes the plug off the terminals. I will need to trim one of them to prevent this.

I'm glad you went with those. They, along with the Cibies Stocker mentioned, don't look out of place in a classic vehicle. There are many great design features to gawk at on these trucks that we don't need to make headlights jump out at you. To see better w/o a clashing appearance is super classy.
