Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Nearing the end of the shed work. Trimmed all I could out today and waiting on 10' of base cabinets to come in. I built a door to cover the breaker box and put a chunk of antler shed on it for a handle. It looks in the photo wider at the top, but it is just the camera angle.

Very nice job. This is a shed, or is it your dog house?

Is that code? Being insulated tight and closed in too, I would imagine there would be temp concerns. I like it, just curious.

I wish. No it belongs to some good friends of ours. His house was built in the late 60s and they needed some updates. The kitchen was small and the dining area was cramped, so hence the dining room addition. The detatched 24 x 32 metal building was the recipient of a 12x32 "she shed" and "he shed" on either side. She wanted drywall on her side and he wanted rustic. I have never had the chace to do anything like this. ( Cabin style) But I like it.

walls should be airtight. you want your building venting thru the attic and roof...as hot air rises

There will NEVER be a Toyota vehicle in my garage as a result of their negligence.
And Dieseldawg, I hope, for your sake, the frame is clean, but I strongly recommend you take it to a reputable repair shop and have them put it on a hoist to inspect the frame from the inside out. Bending down and looking at the outside of the frame will not show any signs of the problem starting, as the rust comes from the inside and by the time you see a bubble or rust stain on the outside the damage is far worse than it looks. Don't mean to be a jerk, but I've seen dozens of these frames that the owners thought were fine until our guy started picking at it and found holes thru rails and cab and spring mounts almost ready to fall off. Yes, these are extreme cases, but unless you have it inspected you'll never know if there is a problem developing that you can have preventive measures performed to stop the advance.
today for the first time i drove the 'yota. drives sweet, tons of features. only thing i see wrong is the traction control light is on and hitting the button didn't do nothing.
had a climb under it, frame looks pretty darn solid to me. minimal rust in a couple spots.

Obviously garage kept and rarely driven. It'll be fine.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I wasnt aware of the rust issues with "Toyota" truck frames, but I have had several Jeep CJs and wranglers and when you look at one of them, you better look the frame over 1st. Your truck looks good to go.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Yotas had severe frame rust issues . The 03 I have it was replaced under a recall in 2012 . It really crusty now again not rot but I’m going to pull the bed and sandblast as well as I can epoxy prime and have it wool waxed .

Gave my old low-hour mower to my new neighbor. We went to drought tolerant plants years ago, and I was looking to give it away.

That turkey looks tasty! We have a boneless leg of lamb roasting for dinner. Baby potatoes and Brussel sprouts will accompany it. Yummay!

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I picked up a Stihl electric mower with charger and battery for $135 on Craigslist for the dog area.
Older dude was going grassless and its looks brand new. Its never even been wet.
Now I have two batteries, two chargers, a blower, a string trimmer, and the mower that all use their biggest 300 series batteries.
The Walker mower wont fit in the dog area.

Scalped two weeks ago. Fertilized last week. Now Im watering the rain shadows under the Junipers. Going to be 72 on Tues then back to the 40s and 50s.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I was alone for Easter this year. I did yardwork, got the rest of my Christmas lights down, and took care of a few other things that have been looking at me. Saturday I took a ride down to the seafood restaurant and got myself a couple crab cakes to cook for Easter. Mmm Mmm GOOD!

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

What I did yesterday, in the rain, was go cross-county to look at some chestnut floor sleepers (super heavy joists) from a barn a guy was selling. They came from a barn that had been torn down. My friend (Don) and upholstery guy has a garage he built from a dismantled log house that needs some wall repairs. A couple 12' lengths were probably not good enough to use when he built it. The corner where they interlock with the back wall is really bad and I had been figuring to re-enforce that with steel.

These chestnut pieces are 15'+ and he had 7. He wanted $100@ which was a killer deal and the reason I got there ASAP. I called Don to see if he could get on over, what they cost, and to make him an offer for all 7. He came and gave $500 for all. Now I can do a proper repair off both walls...and hopefully have some leftover for me

First of all, yes I'm trying to get the place ready for listing for sale. But I'm probably no closer than I was back when I posted what you saw. I need to do my upper roof and work in my cellar. Everything in between is good

For me, I'm about the same distance from the Chesapeake Bay as you were from the ocean. And that's where a lot of seafood comes from. But farther inland we have some of the best fresh seafood markets. I'll be moving farther inland, closer to or in the mountains. My daughter and her family are moving back from Little Rock to Harrisonburg, VA. So maybe somewhere closer to there.

I love that garage, wished I had one at the farm just like it.
I built a bathroom door over the last couple of mornings for the project. I donated a set of antlers for handles. Saloon style , the way they open.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I started selling carpenter bee traps this past weekend. I sold one on Saturday. A whopping $8 sale, YIPPEE!! The buyer was an older guy and we had a nice talk. He's into property management and real estate for apartments and condos. He went to work for a big real estate firm that was branching out into this area and he helped get them going. The franchise has a new owner he doesn't want to deal with, so he's about to start back up on his own. I may be getting some work through that now.

But for now, he called and said his electrical engineer friend will be calling me about a project he has. He has a school bus he's converting into an RV. He told this friend about some of the work I've done that came up in our conversation and the bus guy was impressed. He wants me to do some special trim work in this crate . It sounds interesting and I like doing interesting jobs

Very much!! I had inquired with a business that sells reclaimed lumber like this, doors, hardware, architectural features, etc. and he gets $28 a lineal foot. So, those beams would have been $400@ x 7 = $2,800. And oak not chestnut. I'm glad I came across that deal.
