Ohio - has classic plates - ~$30 and I am licensed until 2050 - sadly you can only drive these things on non-snow/ice days...so I guess it averages out. I would pay a bit more for nice weather and be able to drive these year round...

Re: Dmv fees need your help!!!!

You can sign a statement of fact that states the vehicle was not driven on any public road for the two years. They will usually waive the past due penalties, and all you pay is for the actual cost to register it each year, as if you were paying on time. I've done this a couple times with no issues.
Good luck!

Re: Dmv fees need your help!!!!

Man, that sucks. You can move to Arkansas. Mine sat unregistered for 13 years. It cost me 27 bucks and sighning an affidavit saying it hadn't been on the road in that time. Sorry to hear how bad Cali needs tax money. Can you promise them an arm and a leg instead?

Re: Dmv fees need your help!!!!

This is exactly what happens if a vehicle is not placed on a non-op registration. Don't blame the state on this one. Blame your friend for being too lazy to spend $10. I have a 69 CJ-5 that has had a non-op on it since 2001. It cost me $10....period. There is no yearly fee, maintenance fee, or any other b.s. If I want to go and register it today, it will cost me $36. Welcome to California. Lesson number one, do not buy a vehicle if it is not registered or non-opped.

Ditto I've been in that situation more than one time. Now, the first thing I ask is if the registration is current or Non-Opped.
I tried until I was blue in the face to get the past registration fees waived but for me it was a no go.
The last time cost me over $800.00 when it would have cost just under $80. had the PO just non-Opped it!
California sucks in More than one way!

Re: Dmv fees need your help!!!!

don't know what you are talkin' about. up here in maine, the registration runs out...oh well....you just can't drive it or you'll get a ticket if its more than amonth overdue. my 72 burb was like $350 last year (mostly sales tax on $7500) but it should be under $60 this year. i transferred the plates from my 89 lesabre. it may stay home when the snow and junk flies, but i want to be able to use it like a truck and not just as an antique.....this isn't a model T just going to shows and back.

Re: Dmv fees need your help!!!!

wow!! thats alot of fees fines and penalties, I was *****in about NM fees going up from 35 to 50.00 yearly.
I would think that if you can prove that the veh was inop for a # of years (like a recept for an engine tranny or rear end, or a bunch of other receipts) that they would waive some of those back registration fees

The entire state is like that. We have the honer of paying the highest taxes in the country. Highest DMV fees. Highest gas taxes. Highest welfare in the nation. California has 12% of the nation's population and 39% of the nations welfare. 9.75% sales tax in Los Angeles county. Highest paid teachers in the nation but our public school system ranks 43rd.
The California legislature is now up to a 12% approval rating.
I can go on...

So you can get rust free trucks real cheap, but if you want to drive them, it's $$$$ -- I guess it all evens out in the end
