Paint Code Question

I have a 70 Chevy and it came with the orange/red color with white inbetween the moldings, does anyone know where I could get that code?

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Paint Code Question

it should be listed on the options sheet in the glove box door. Look on there and there should be a color combination code. Some pics would be nice to.

Re: Paint Code Question

That's a good site but they don't have Medium Red listed for 1972. I never did find the code for it when I was hunting it a while back. My glovebox door has a code for my 2 tone combination, not the Medium Red on it's own. It's an odd color, in some light it looks very orange or faded red, and at other times it looks dead on red. I thought about having it painted green to match my 4x4 just so people would quit calling it orange.

Its code number is 553. That number reflects a "conventional" 2 tone paint job with orange, red as the main body color and white as the secondary between the upper and lower moldings, roof up from the rear cab stainlesss would have been white also. I'm going by the pic of the truck in your avatar and the paint scheme it looks like.

The color code designation numbers do change depending where the white is, but yours is that one. 2 tones didnt have to have white either..sometimes they used a different shade of the primary color.

The only good source of these codes that I have are from dealer data books.

This one is going to take some interpreting...hopefully correct, and may need some help from members on this one.

Most 2 tone paint jobs have a different number compared to where the 'white' as in this case, is the second color.
While there are basically 3 different paint code numbers
for white below the lower molding and on the roof.

This paint job is what they call a regular 2 tone. The data book dose not list a paint scheme or regular 2 tone. It lists conventional 2tone, special 2 tone and conventional 2 tone.
I may be lead to believe that they just used the regular solid paint codes and just added the white top at customer or dealer request as it list all trucks could be ordered that way.

You listed a medium red on your glove box. I just looked up in the 1970 data book color chart called medium red and it lists it as 514 in solid color.

1972 data book dosen't list a medium red, but a Crimson Red with option number 514. That 514 number is the same number as the 70 medium red color.

Looking at the truck pictures in different shades of reflection by the lighting conditions, it looks like it could be 1972 solid color code 524, which is Firebolt Orange as listed in the 72 dealer data book.

So what I need to ask around a bit about here amongst the members is.....
In your trucks that have solid paint but white roof original paint scheme.....what isyour listed paint number, so I compare and see I determine if there is a difference in the option number if it had a white roof or did they just used the solid paint number and add the white roof per customer / dealer request.

Re: Paint Code Question

My C10 has code 544 white/medium red on the glovebox door. The K10 has 485 white & dark green listed on the glovebox door. I'm pretty sure the dark green is a fleet color that they still use that is code 505. How I typed them is how they're printed, one uses a "/" and the other uses "&" between the colors.

Re: Paint Code Question

544 is in my Chevy Dealer 1972 data book paint chip chart that list it as two tone paint code with Crimson Red as main color.

505 is the code for solid color called Glenwood Green in my 72 dealer data book.
535 would be the regular 2 tone.

White is called Frost white and white alone as a color code is 521
Blue is called Mariner blue and by itself as a solid color is 523..

now when you combine the two colors in a 2 tone paint scheme like yours its code 572, and thats whats listed on your glove box. I have some lacking pages on 1972 trucks, but I wonder if the truck has had the white stripe in the center between the side molding added afterwards.
Thats pretty much what I'm asking before in my members help wanted bit.
The earlier years list thing fairly clear as to different number for different area of white painted.

You could have white cab top only, white on of cab and below lower molding, or white between the moldings..all had different option number in earlier years, but the 72 code isnt as clear so there is some need for interpreting whats listed.

The DuPont paint code for Marnier Blue is 5336-L, By Rhinshed-Mason its code A-2474 , by Dizler paint its called 2366.

Frost white is Du-pOnt code 817-L
Rinshed -Mason code A-1347
Ditzler code 2185

go buy some paint .

Actually, all you have to do is minimize your internet window a little and drag the picture onto your desktop. The website just has a little coding that prevent's right clicking on the pages.
