Drive Shaft Question
'71 C20 LWB
When I removed my drive shaft to replace the carrier bearing assembly I found 2 spacers between the frame mount and the U-shaped bearing assembly. Total spacing was about 3/4-inch. They are clearly home-made shims and when installed they would move the drive shaft down. Any idea why those spacers would be there? Should I put them back in? Thanks in advance. |

Re: Drive Shaft Question
the only reason to use spacers is to get the drive line angles flatter. when i put in the gear vendoe overdrive i hae to do several mods to my drive line and relocate the carrier bearing back 12 inches..anyway i ended up putting a spacer under the trany to get rid of some angles in the ujoints.
id say look and see what way makes the driveline the flattest and go with that.
