1948 panel project 15 years in the making

Ok so here we go ill clean this first post up a bit after I load some Picts but basically the long story short got the truck when I was 15 worked on it here and there went to a few body shops nothing got done sat then sat some more life happens got married had a son and well hit the big 30 haha all while the truck sat next to my parents house. I figured enough was enough and after the last body shop leaving the body sit at the sandblasters it was time to take matters into my own hands. A friend of mine and i picked it up in early November and with his help in my parents garage a few hrs here and there this is where its at

That's at the blasters the last pict shows a huge dent that was somehow magically put there. You can also see rust from the damn body shop guy leaving it sit there
Posted via Mobile Device

Then after getting it home i built a little shelter to keep the dust in 1 spot and some heat in over the winter as well as putting and acid etch on to take care of the surface rust

Next we sanded the etch down and shot some primer and hung doors to see how things look after sitting for so long. The one positive thing was over the years I did get a chance to ger 3 of the 4 doors bodywork done and in primer

Next was time to start on the cowl

Yeah super happy with progress but so far to go. Only good thing is the s10 I'm using is a full runner so once the metal works done hopefully bolt it on and go.

Re: 1948 panel project 15 years in the making

I have read that the panel/burb body has an extra mount on each side to swap to the s-10, other than that its just like every other swap. Are you going to cut and fab the front frame horn/rad support or graft the AD back into the s-10?

Re: 1948 panel project 15 years in the making

I plan on doing the s10 and graft the rad support to the s10 horns. Kinda like most s10 swappers. My goal is to try and keep as much s10 as possible. It will be used as my business truck so I will be driving it on a daily basis and figure if a wheel bearing goes out its easy to pop into the parts store and grab a part.

Plans are to keep the fuel injected 4.3 out of the s10 to get it up and driving. And possibly lower the suspension a bit. Kinda looking for a 50-60s custom 15s maybe some whitewalls nice Fulton visor and a patina vinyl wrap. I have a sign business and would like to use this to show of my vinyl wrapping skills so plans are to do a rusty ish grill and then a blueish patina like that one back door is in the first post. Maybe an oldschool logo one the side

Haha thanks i know I'm a little crazy and I love your Burban. There's a semi local guy that has a chevy panel and then a local auto tags business has 3 of them forsale pretty close. And 1 or 2 pickups all chevy and I like to be a bit different so thought the gmc clip would kinda set it apart. Also my chevy grill was smashed in hood looked like the Atlantic Ocean and the fender were well less than nice and found the gmc for a sweet deal and it really straight.

Im assuming this is the same stodd from over on s10forum? Ya probably dont remember me but we met at Carlisle many a years back.

Either way, nice project and looking forward to seeing it completed! Seems a bunch of us s10 guys are growing up and working on old school iron over here.

Re: 1948 panel project 15 years in the making

Stodd Good progress so far. I have a 49 suburban that I grafted a 69 nova subframe to several years ago.. it works great but may want to do another with the S10 in future. Do you have any pictures of mating it to the frame? Did you have to fabricate new mounts for body. Inquiring minds want to know.....

Re: 1948 panel project 15 years in the making

It's basically setup like all the s10 truck swaps. The front cab mounts are the same as the truck mounts and the rear mounts sit right outside the rear frame rails. There is no floor so I'll take some Picts
