That is neat, would like to see the spid for maybe a OE indicator. Look at the floor gear shift. I know it is a add-in, but its on the left side of the hump. Wonder if that is the way they had to set it up for the trans linkage to work.

Re: CL*** Original?!, Right Hand Drive, KPH

this is my truck, what would you like to know
only ID numbers i have been able to find is on the door opening plate
the forward frame numbers i could only reveal the last couple and they matched the plate on
the door opening, under the cab is unkown as i didnt remove that to be able to see it
-the shifter from the factory was on the column, on the LEFT! signal on the right
stump is still on column ring, hurst floor shifter was added years ago with a trans replacement
firewall is untouched, steering column, master cyl ect are all in the spots they always been on this truck and heaterbox is an oddball too (inside under dash)
this truck is absolutely without any question a special ordered factory made rhd

Re: CL*** Original?!, Right Hand Drive, KPH

We would love to see under hood pic's etc.
Was it produced for use in England or one of its colonies?
Really interesting.

Re: CL*** Original?!, Right Hand Drive, KPH

original owners owned a farm here in ct as well as in england
truck was ordered RHD for that purpose, however they sold the farm in england
and returned to the states here with the truck sometime in the early 80's
when the mailman i got the truck from purchased it and used the truck for local deliveries for over a dozen years
(mailman is looking through his paperwork for any international documentation, but was pretty sure it was already ct documented after it's return when he bought it)
here are further pics http://s133.photobucket.com/albums/q69/leadfoot1965/

I would think GM would charge a fortune to build a one-off truck. Do you have any idea if there are more out there?

Leadfooter,
Thanks for sharing the photobucket!
Looking at all the trucks made for domestic purposes one can see that there is a windshild wiper arm, alternate mount holes on the passenger side so no doubt they made plenty of em.
Mail vehicles, I am sure. Military vehicles produced for use in England or Hong Kong or wherever they drive on the RHS.
Thanks again for sharing!

Re: CL*** Original?!, Right Hand Drive, KPH

the great thing about the 60's if "ya have the money" you could get anything done
and back then i am sure import and export "regulations" were a whole lot less than today
OR IF they were in the military and if an officer they could get entire homes moved along with them (my granddad was an officer in the navy and had all kinds of stuff moved my the military, even patio blocks that still had grass attached to em!)
i really wish there was some documentation or more to the story but thats all i know
i have tried to find any other RHD factory made 60's truck and have not seen one even close to this that wasnt "converted" by someone after the factory and some were not done well at all imo
(from a little homework, i did find that the most common RHD country is actually Australia ..so maybe we gotta dig a little "down under" for another?)
i did notice the slight differences where in the LHD side under the dash has a threaded hole or two like where the ebrake lever or column shield would be able to go there
but zero indication of any of those changes since "new"
(and i do appreciate all input here, every day has been a learning experience with this truck ! )

Re: CL*** Original?!, Right Hand Drive, KPH

You are so right! What model, color, off the wall options and they'd build it.
You might have one rare item there my friend.
Seeing that all the cowl supports are pierced for RHS or LHS, I would think it wasnt that uncommon but no doubt a slim few would still exist from a small number to start with.
In the rural Ozarks they all drive on the RHS with LHS trucks for delivering the mail. It still looks funny to see a truck coming down the road with a guy on the wrong side with his arm across the cab holding the wheel.
I bet the mailman up there hated to part with it when he did.
I do think there were companies that made conversion pedal kits as thats where the real fun starts trying to drive a LHS truck from the RHS..

Re: CL*** Original?!, Right Hand Drive, KPH

the trick here was, most mail trucks private owned used to deliver the mail were also required to be automatics (around here anyway lol.. )
mailman said it was never more fun having his dog up on the board he had on the "pass side" and being in traffic when some old lady looked over and saw a german shepard where a driver "normally" is lol gotta be priceless just for that

Re: CL*** Original?!, Right Hand Drive, KPH

the real question here though.. is.. whats it worth?
like.. say YOU owned this truck, and need to sell it.. what would YOU do?
had a call today guy got bent at me because i wouldnt give em a price
i said make me an offer.. and he said what do ya want for it.. round and round
thinking ebay may be the only option to find out that answer..
but damm i hate ebay

Re: CL*** Original?!, Right Hand Drive, KPH

Value is a very subjective thing. And while this truck is rare here they were a production vehicle. South Africa comes to mind. Australia as a Holden??? Likely Europe as well, seen some really strange Camaros produced there. eBay may be the only easy way to see what the market is willing to spring for. Reserve it high or try their classified ads. One thing though, what is the paper like? Is this titled or how does your state do a truck this old? Would you be willing to post or send me a picture of the data plate? I'd love to have it but you are a long ways away and a C/10 just dosen't meet my current needs. Now a RHD 4x4 C/30 Longhorn would be cool.

ZUBZ from down in Joburg has been working a deal on a '70 C/10. You might like to see his pictures of. He has been working this deal since November and I hope he gets the truck. The seller died with his deposit!...http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=495448

Maybe PM Larawilde on the board. She has one that is RHD, and she lives in Australia.

Re: CL*** Original?!, Right Hand Drive, KPH

connecticut does not issue titles for vehicles this old unfortunately and if a title existed
dmv would have taken it and dont give em back
there is a transfer of ownership (like a bill of sale) on the registration
i ran the vin and came back with terrytown ny and not any special run number like 1 or the last in production or anything , only the jack label was on the back wall, no other stickers paperwork or id , i could barely reveal the last couple numbers on the forward frame rail and would expect the same under the cab , the last couple numbers i could see did match the cab tag
i know there is a company or two out here that can issue a title for a fee to vehicles like this, if sold to someone in ct, it's pain free, they just need my transfer on the registration and a bill of sale ,however your correct other states would require possibly more
-
i have google'd, yahoo'd and searched ALOT of classified sources trying to find ANY 60's american made truck RHD or any 60's rhd vehicles and could only find a nova wagon that went for ALOT, a couple impala's, mail jeeps of course, a report of a 55 panel with RHD seen in traffic (no pic) ..and this one
-i am far from greedy, and only want a fair deal found for both sides of this
i dont have a great deal of money "into it" but i have extended myself pretty far to get to the functional and solid condition it's about to be

Re: CL*** Original?!, Right Hand Drive, KPH

Jim Carter has an article about a 1939 RHD truck in NZ. The interesting tidbit is that the RHD vehicles were built at Oshawa Ontario. Wonder if GM Canada has this VIN build or any relevant info?
http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/blog/i...ht-hand-drive/
Also a board link with pictures of RHD trucks.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=459329
Lastly fun pictures at a conversion company, RHD new ZL-1 anyone?? :-)
http://www.uswd.com/RHDchevrolet.htm
They do sell used vehicles but....

Definitely NOT made for the UK as we have never and still don't use Kilometers, all our speed limits and road signs are in miles even now when everything else is metrificated. Maybe South Africa, Oz, Kenya or somewhere like that.

Wow, very interesting. I just figured that since Canada had the kilometer speedo's UK did also.
Leadfoot you have one rare item there. Maybe someone at GM could help you figure this out.
Keep us posted on your findings.

-this truck is def an odd one.. and i trust the story that it came with
and enjoying any further developing details of this story

There are a few more that I have seen just on here, I know of 2 for sure 1 is in indonesia 1968 C10 SWB (linked) and the other I cant find at the moment but he was a USA member with a similar story, farmer ordered it for use in europe. sold the europe farm, brought the truck back and retired
