Brake help again

I need to know why the push rod on my right wheel cylinder keeps popping out of the front brake shoe. It happened again today and all you hear is it pop and then there goes my brakes all together. I have no idea why it keeps happening, so some help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Brake help again

Wrong wheel cylinder? Drum badly worn out-of-spec and the shoes are pushed out so far that the wheel cylinder is overextended?

Re: Brake help again

I have no idea, I replaced the wheel cylinder with one from o'reillys and it's popped out about three different times while driving it. Should I replace the brake shoes and they'll solve it from happening again?

Re: Brake help again

That's what I was probably thinking and just replacing them when I get paid again. Has anybody else had this problem and could help me out with finding the right solution to this? I'm sick of my brakes working fine and then having it pop out and having no brakes again.

Re: Brake help again

Make sure you have your adjusters correct.
When you take the drum off, is the adjust closed all the way down?
Could be that you have them reversed, meaning they close when they should open.

Each adjuster is specific to right or left side.

Does your wheel cylinder fit between 2 "ears" (one at each end of cyl.) that limit travel of the PISTONS? I've seen where previous 'mechanics' have bent these ears away or flattened them to make it easier to remove pistons for honing-while-rebuilding wheel cylinders still on the vehicle, and never bend them back to proper position. If it's the same push rod each time, that would be something to look for at that end of that wheel cylinder. One ear may even be broken off and gone?!

To rule out several possibilities while verifying proper installation, I'd swap sides with the shoes. Be sure that each wheel has a shorter shoe(primary) on the front and a longer one(secondary) on the back.
