one piece window conversions

Ive been trying to find some info on these but only could find some old threads where it seemed people had LOTS of issues with them on our trucks.

Anything new? Have the kits been fixed to make the install smoother and easier.

I want some but plan on doing the install myself, and dont have anything more than basic hand tools to use.

I picked up a set from Brothers not too long ago. Starting the install this weekend. All the pieces look to be pretty clean. Made overseas, at least the glass, but decent fit/finish so far. Main concern is rattle, but from what I've heard about these they have no issues. I'll report back after the install.

Cool, let me know how it goes and what all tools you need to do it.

My vent windows are in real bad shape and my door glass is broke as well. So this is an alternative I like, if its not a crazy amount of work.

If I could get some rebuilt vent windows and a new glass piece I would keep the stock look but the vent windows are 200 each.

I installed the Brother's one piece window kit in my truck with the power window option. I'm pretty happy with it, the power portion is great. The exterior window scraper doesn't fit quite right and when I pointed this out to the tech guy at Brothers he refused to admit their production problem, gave me a new set of scrapers which were the same as the ones I already had but refused to admit there is a problem. The only time the windows rattle is when I shut the doors when the windows are down and no wind noise that I can tell.
The instructions that come with the kit could be more complete. They say you can do the install with the doors on the truck and you can, but if you don't have an angle drill the doors have to be off the truck to do the installation.
The modification they tell you to do to the check-link doesn't work very well. The modification I came up with worked much better. Again, when I told the tech guy what I had done to the check-link he didn't want to hear it...of course they had done all of the R&D and their instructions were flawless.
All in all I like the windows. If you do choose the Brother's one piece glass kit, don't be afraid to "customize" the installation. The kit can be improved upon.

I have the Brothers kit on my truck and I have grown to dislike it as time has gone by. Operationally its totally fine, no leaking, wind noise or rattling issues at all. Along with Randy, what gets me is are the exterior window scrapers. With mine, unless they are 110% clean, they squeal like crazy when you roll the windows up. And let me tell you it is LOUD, when it first started doing it I thought the window regulator was broke. If you wipe them down frequently it won't do it, but its kind of a pain. In hindsight I would have rather kept my old windows and wings, but on the plus side I don't have to worry anymore about someone pushing the wing in and unlocking the door.

When you install the window kit you re-use parts from the original vent window assembly.
The window channel (guide) from the vent window assembly is removed from the vent window and re-installed in the door as the guide for the front edge of the new window. Because of it's new location, as you close the door, the check-link hits the guide. The instructions tell you to re-shape (grind) the end of the check-link making it shorter. This didn't work for me. I shortened the check-link by re-locating the roll pin hole in the link where it attaches to the hinge. I moved the hole 1 inch and re-shaped the hinge side of the link to look original. Problem solved. The door doesn't open as far as it originally did but you wouldn't know it if I didn't tell you. I'm fat and have no problem getting in and out of my truck.

I put the Brother's one piece kit in my truck back in 2009. All the needed pieces were in the kit and everything fit pretty good. The only I would say it to sit down and carefully read the instructions because it seems like a fifth grader wrote them. Other than trhat , no issues....
