Blue dot/clear tail lights?

2wdblazer had a nice pic on the thread about side marker lights. A guy in town has them on his 2wd also, i like! Have for a while. I was just wondering if anybody has some pics of them - Lit Up at night?!?! They make the light glow a little purple,no? I just wonder how long it would take for CHP to pull me over?

Also - the clear tail lightes with red bulbs seem like they would be hott too, but...isnt there a law about needing red reflectors, which are built into our orig. tail lights on the bottom 1/2. Or is this just a law which varies state to state? Well thanks for all the help guys

My experience here in Michigan was I had Blue Neon under my truck and and it was just put on maybe 2 weeks before a cop stopped me. They asked me did I know why I was pulled over? They said it was because of the blue lights. Anything Blue or Red are Emergency colors and were not allowed to have them. Good Luck.

John,

I don't have pics, but Blue Dots done right do glow purple. There are tons of Hot Rods around here that run them.

I've been out of California for over 14 years now but I remember that Blue Dots were illegal then, and my brother-in-law tells me things have gotten even more strict.

I don't think you can run Blue Dot's without getting pulled over, but I don't see why you can't have clear lenses with red lights.

Here's a copy of the CA Vehicle Code:

"(e) Stoplamps on vehicles manufactured on or after January 1,
1979, shall emit a red light. Stoplamps on vehicles manufactured
before January 1, 1979, shall emit a red or yellow light. All
stoplamps shall be plainly visible and understandable from a distance
of 300 feet to the rear both during normal sunlight and at
nighttime, except that stoplamps on a vehicle of a size required to
be equipped with clearance lamps shall be visible from a distance of
500 feet during such times."

Good Luck.

The problem the police have with clear lights with red bulbs is that at 300ft they are not red, during daylight hours, till you step on the brakes.I know in Pa they are not dot approved. It can give them a reason to pull You over and start finding other "things"..seatbelts,and whatever.

LUV2XCLR8,

I don't know about most states, but California and Hawaii are. I see cars and trucks everyday that I know would get tickets in CA or not pass inspection in HI.

I heard the emissions testing thing is coming here, but I haven't heard enough to know what they are doing. I saw that DT said that Memphis has it, but Knoxville doesn't and neither does Blount County

LUV2XLR8,

Here are the area's with emissions:

Emissions Testing

Residents of Davidson, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson and Wilson counties in Middle Tennessee and residents of Memphis in West Tennessee must have their vehicles pass an emissions inspection prior to registration or registration renewal. Inspection is not required for vehicles of model year 1974 and older in Middle Tennessee. However, an inspection is required for vehicles of all model years in Memphis.

John... sorry to bogart your thread

In most states blue dot tail lights are illegal, I have had them in my 67 stepside since I have owned the truck (7+yrs)and have never been bothered because of them. I also have them in one of my bikes (15+yrs) and nobodys has bothered me about it either and yes they are illegal here. I think for the most part is how much you can pi$$ the local cop off if he stops you or you are just being a nuisance around town. Or the cop is just an a$$. I also ran these in some other vehicles in Colorado, Texas, & Washington and never got bothered because of them.

I've heard about a lot of people getting pulled over around here because the cops saw that they weren't wearing a seatbelt, when they actually were. A lapbelt. lol That happens a lot around here.
