tranny question?

when i put my motor and tranny in, lost a lot of tranny fluid, i went to move it and wouldn't move, so checked it the dipstick read like none, so i went and put some in, barely read, ended up having to put almost a gallon in it, now its starting to read, how much tranny fluid will this thing hold??? i assume that the tq converter drained some??? i know its kinda a dumb question but when i put this thing in i lost ALOT of fluid

Re: tranny question?

Well you have added about 4 quarts so looks like you still have 7 to go. That should get it on the stick. I had to put close to 6 in mine.
Jimmy

Thanks for your service

Re: tranny question?

I have done it for other reasons and had it make a big mess so I know it will lower the fluid level.

Re: tranny question?

Did u fill the convertor first, separately?

As for taking some out, my 80e has a drain plug thats a huge torx, like a T50.

Shifting might feel weird for a couple reasons. With open headers, its possible your getting way out of wack 02 trims, and it might pull a bunch of timing (so everything feels weird). Also, shift firmness, tq management in the tune can affect the feel...so if you haven't done a road tune or at least acclimated to the feel, it can feel off.

The first few days on my 4l80e were weird, since it was a fresh rebuild, fresh converter, and the fluid was about 40*. Once we had that figured out, we realized there was an issue with false knock causing lockup problems (weird shifting issue #2)

On the free-n-easy side, check the connections at the side of the trans and make sure they don't have any fluid on them etc, and that they are fully plugged in with a clean connections. Its also a good idea to double check wiring and lines/piping once you've had it warmed up a bit. Sometimes vibrations and heat can move, sag, melt, or pinch wiring that looked good when it was static.

Good thinking, going to try and get the exaust put on tomorrow, I'm going to through the connectors and stuff here in a moment...as far as the tq converter the engine and tranny went in together, never unbolted them

Are you talking about the big one that goes on the black shifter module ? I just took off my harness and I thought it could go in only one way.

I always forget, are you 60e or 80e? If its just the one rubber hose off a nipple towards the top of the case, its just a puke-hose for moisture.
