New to me Jimmy
Just picked up this 72 Jimmy. I’ve had a few Blazers over the years but never a Jimmy. Looking forward to cruising it with my wife and 3 boys.

Re: New to me Jimmy
Thanks DeadheadNM. After the trucking company promised to get the Blazer home 3 days ago. Finally the Blazer arrived at 12 midnight. Had to stay up for the call. It arrived out of fuel, with a dead battery. After fueling, and jumping the battery, got her off the truck at 1am.
The day before, i had to remove a huge beam from my garage and run 2x8x14s across the garage. Now I was able raise the garage door up from 6’ 0” to 6’ 10”. The Blazer fits great. Last edited by CoolK5; 08-29-2023 at 10:17 PM. |

Re: New to me Jimmy
DeadheadNM just saw your Highlander medium blue. Thats a beautiful Blazer. A lot of detail went into you restoration. I’ll have to get some pointers from you, when I repaint my motor and clean things up!

Been doing all my own maintenance and having a good time doing it. Cleaning up the motor. Changed the spark plugs. Serviced the tranny and so on…

Re: New to me Jimmy
That truck is super clean. Very nice score. I have a '71 Jimmy. Mine's a metallic blue. w/ white top. It's my DD.
Just replaced the E-Brake cable. Test drive tonight.

Quote:
I'd been driving it since 1973. I've replaced the rear end, trailing arms and passenger side wheel, but it still crabs Left and above 59 MPH, I get wildly excessive vibrations. Turns out my Propshaft is bent. I have a '68 RH Stepside fender. It's gold. I will mount that when it's running well. Last week -- with the Jimmy down for brake cable surgery -- I had to run the pickup for short grocery runs. It's OK if I keep the speed down. I need to run it thru emissions, as it's registration is up at October's end. After I get it passed, I'll pull the driveshaft and see if it's fixable. Funny, the price of used vintage parts is about the same as a new custom-built shaft.

Re: New to me Jimmy
Jimmy's fine. I completed my E/Brake Cablectomy Tuesday. Cleaned up some obsolete electrical stuff [Electric Trailer Brake Controller -- sold the trailer.] And a failed attempt to run a duplicate wire to the Fuel Level Sender. My tank gauge hasn't worked since I bought it in '95. I can't get to it because there is a steel skid pan over the fuel tank with about 45 bolts holding it up for 51 years. I just use a log to figure my fuel burn rate.
It was the Orange '68 Stepside pick-up that got T-Boned. Had the GMC out last night, and it's running good. E/Brake pedal is high, but I'll get used to it.

Painted some things under the hood. Then took the boys out for a summer cruise to a friends house.

Re: New to me Jimmy
Very cool rig!
I think that if you take your pictures with your phone horizontal with the bottom of the phone to the right, they will show up oriented correctly on the site. Spun this one for ya. |
