70 1 ton axles

HI all

Im fixing my old workhorse. I have access to two 1 ton axles and I am writing to ask your opinions on them. The first is from a 70 c30, the second is from a 70 chevy motorhome its a small motorhome, has smallblock and th400. My question is did they change the distance on leaf spring pads between 3/4 and 1 tons, for example could I take the 70 1 ton rear and put it in my 79 3/4.
One more thing what rears come in those trucks, the front wheels have the big 5, or 6 bolt pattern i cant really remember, like a truck tho. the rear is a 8 hole.

Ok and how about that motorhome will that be a usable axle or is that a diffrent setup all together.

You can take the center section from them & put in yours but I dought the houseing will interchange without modification. That motor home might have a 4:11 in it. Very rare.

Yes. I believe the 1 ton axle is not a direct bolt in for the 3/4 ton. I have been known to be wrong once before. The best way would be crawl under them with a tape & see.

Re: 70 1 ton axles

I came up with a 2" difference in the overall leaf spring widths, when comparing my 72 Chevy C30 Dually and my 72 GMC 3/4 ton.

Surprisingly, it was the dually that had the narrower spring spacing.

I have yet to verify if the frames are narrower in the rear or if this is done with the spring mounts.
