Trying to buy this!

This belongs to a wonderful older woman my wife and I have known for years. It was her husbands, he bought it new. I have been trying to get her to sell it to me for about ten years, she says Im first on he list if and when she sells, she is is having a hard time parting with it because her husband died some years ago. It doesnt get driven much, only started and driven around the the house once and a while. It starts right up and runs perfect still. This thing is straight, rust free and I want it BAD. I am sure it would look new with a little buffing.
The only issue I have with it is her husband cut the shell to replace the windows with windows out of a house! He did a nice job, well, as nice as household windows mounted in a Blazer can be! Have any of you ever worked on the fiberglass shell on a Blazer? If I do buy it I want to put it back to original, I dont know if it would be worth trying to fix whats there or look for a new top.
Anyway, I thought I would share this beauty with you guys!

As much as I'd like to have that truck too I think I'd just keep it running and clean for her. It must make her feel like a little of the old guy is still around every time she looks out her door and sees it. She probably remembers how much he loved it too.

I feel the same way, I am sure my day will come, I am in no hurry and know it's safe! She and I joke about it being mine already, I keep telling her I am going to pick it up and take it home, she says "you know where the keys are!" (and I do!)

It would definitely be cheaper to get a new top. The hatch is the most expensive part of the top, and it looks like your hatch is good. You should be able to find a top pretty reasonably.

It sure wouldn't take much to get that old girl shined up and drivable. Have you actually offered her cash yet?

AirSpeed- hope you get it. Looks really nice. Is it a 69 or 70? What is the badge under the K5 Blazer emblem "4 wheel drive"? My 71 doesn't have it but there was a 70 that is for sale being discussed the other day and it had that badge under the K5.

definitely one truck that needs to be kept as original as possible (maybe disc front brakes and petronix kit would be my only major mods). maybe she will leave it to you in her will or something. volunteer to do all the maintenance on it for her and drive it on the road if she is unable to do it. maybe you and your wife could make a weekly outing of taking her to the store in it, out to eat, etc so the truck gets run well. you want a good 10 miles just to get the engine fully warmed up...just like with exercising for 30 minutes, it is the time spent beyond that point that really makes a difference. for both, it is all to "get the blood pumping" and "recharge the batteries" as they say.

i took my 72 burb c20 for a spin today as it is supposed to snow tomorrow and i wanted to take advantage of the 40 degree sunny weather since the truck has been sitting a solid month+ and who knows when the next somewhat warm, dry day will be. i only have a tarp to keep the snow off, but at least i leave the truck home on days when the road is covered in wet salt.

It's hard to sway someone in to selling a vehicle that has so much "sentimental" value. The sad part is (and I mean no disrespect to your wife's friend), that a lot of people will let a vehicle sit and rot because it reminds them of their dearly departed. On the contrary... if some one (like yourself) was able to get the vehicle and drive it, use it, restore it, maybe even hot rod it a little... would mean just as much to the person who passed.

I watched a 1955 Chevy truck rot to the framerails behind a house for 30 years becasue the old gal that had it wouldn't part with it because it was her late husbands. I watched it get hauled off for scrap about 2 years ago... because when she finally passed... that's what was written in her will. That is just such a waste of machinery (and parts for that matter).

It's a delicate and touchy situation... but I do hope that you end up with that rig. It would be nice tosee someone enjoy it. There is a '69 K5 sitting along side a house that is one of my buddy's neighbors. The thing has been sitting there with the windows rolled down and nothing covering it for the 12 years my buddy has lived next to the guy. He won't sell it because he's "Gonna fix it up one day..."

It boggles the mind.

Good luck on getting that rig. It looks to be in good shape.

Thanks all! It's safe for now, it's always under her carport. This woman is in her 80s and gets around better than me! She is a tough woman! I don't know to many women her age that still drive, mow their own lawn and are completely independent! I hope she keeps going for a long time! Thanks!

As long as its taken care of i dont see why she just cant keep it at her place until shes ready to sell it, i can see why she keeps it is because her husband bought it new and loved that truck to keep it as long as he did and thats probably one of the few things that lasted like that all these years. I agree with airspeed and im sure that if he shows his love for that truck and she sees how much he likes it and how well he treats it im sure she will give it to him someday because she will most likely want to know that itll be taken care of like her husband took care of it. I wouldnt be suprised sometime in the future we see a thread started by airspeen titled "its finally mine" because she knows how much you like it and your also her friend. Cant wait to see you get it!

I'm not gonna tell you where it is either! It nevers leaves the property, if I catch you looking for it I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I don't know what I'm gonna do but it won't be pretty!
How's work been going? Have you been busy? My truck is still running great, I have been adding more crap to it all the time, I'm working on a tiny computer for it right now, every guy needs a computer built into their old truck!

As much as I would love to have that blazer, I'm sure it has a better future with you. I'm planning a build with a bare 72 cab, shortbed frame, and a cummins donor truck, not really the kind of thing that should be done to that pretty of a blazer.
