Newbie Looking to buy... what is this truck worth?

Hello all... I'm new to the board and I was hoping to get some help. What is this truck worth? (see link below.) Does anyone see anything major wrong with this truck? Lastly, how do you all determine a value of a truck? Thanks to all that help...

Re: Newbie Looking to buy... what is this truck worth?

Looks to be a nice truck. I would give it a very fine inspection befor e purchase. The price at the BIN is not out of line if the truck is a solid as they claim. Also if you plan to change everything about the truck and are going to dump another $10K into it then I wouldnt start with something so nice.

Smirch9, I would have posted there... I guess new accounts are restricted in some areas until we prove we're not bad apples.

Phantom dually, I'm looking to get in and go. Not looking for a project... since I already have one I'm in the middle of. Thanks for your opinion on what it is worth.

Looks like a very nice truck. I dont think you can build one like it for the price. I would buy a truck like that rather than build another. Good luck John

I looked at one that was close to it at Charlotte for $11,500. Very solid and worth it.

Re: Newbie Looking to buy... what is this truck worth?

It looks like a pretty good truck for the money. It's hard to tell by the pictures. I'd sure want to see it in person to get a real feel.

A couple of things jump out at me that dog it down a little for me

- the detailing of the the undercarriage is not top notch. Looks a little amaturish to me. Otherwise the paint looks to be pretty good to me.

-He says "U63 PUSH BUTTON RADIO/ am/fm radio with dash dual center speaker ( AND YES IT WORKS!!!)" It was AM only in 68. Don't assume it's a rare am/fm radio found in the later years.

There are a few other details that are not original especially under the hood and the wheels. The interior looks pretty "Correct" to my eye except for the chrome trim on the pedals. That was part of the CST only not Custom.

If it were properly detailed underneath and/or more original it'd be a $15K+ truck so its BIN price is not too far out of line. AC would help out the value quite a bit.

I don't think the seller is trying to hide anything. It helps that it's a short box and is mostly unspoiled.

Re: Newbie Looking to buy... what is this truck worth?

toms68cst... thanks for your reply. That's the kind of *detailed* answer I was looking for since these trucks are all new to me. If not this year, I hope to have one next year so bare w/ me if I ask many questions about many trucks.

BTW, love the board!

Re: Newbie Looking to buy... what is this truck worth?

Glad to help notenuff. That's an interesting truck to me because it's almost a dead ringer to mine. Mine is a CST not a custom and mine's a long wide bed where that one is a short wide. Other than those items and the color of the interior mine's very similar.

IMO It'd help too if it had the original block. It looks like it would have been a 307 because it's a CE model truck with no optional engines listed.

I'd be real carefull about what's under that fresh paint. I hope it's not a bondo special. Given that the rest of the truck is in such nice shape hopefully the rest of the body under that paint is pretty solid.

Good luck with your search.

Re: Newbie Looking to buy... what is this truck worth?

Just curious, trucks with wood panel beds don't have any sheet metal under them??? I always figured the wood was put down over the sheet metal. Anybody know how they came stock with the wood panels?

Re: Newbie Looking to buy... what is this truck worth?

ante_up13...just wood on cross supports, no metal floor underneath. You pull up my plastic bed liner and the freeway exit sign that is under that, and you are looking at my HO72 rear and lots of pavement.
Like stated, the stereo is not original, nor is the speaker. They came with a single speaker, not a dual center speaker ... and again as stated before...the undercarrige looks to have been covered with wall mart black spray paint over everything. Take the body off and paint what's left on there.
My concern is the cab.
Added a cargo light... now, it is claimed to be added...not original, however, i noticed that the inst panel has the lights and wipers on oposing sides, and no hand choke. There WAS indeed an option in 68 for automatic choke, but I have never seen one that had the wipers and light switches mounted like that. This would require a 69 and up style harness...plus the new bezel. The only thing stopping me from saying it is probably a swapped cab is that it does have the hand brake as opposed to foot operated brake introduced in 69, however that may have been added.

I would really want to look over this rig...or even drop 100 bucks paying an expert in the area to look at it, before dropping that kind of cash. It looks sharp....damn sharp, but I 9have a funny feeling on this one.

Good eye about the inst panel Andy. That one got by me. I suppose it got re-worked when they put the tach in. The bed light looks tacked on to me.

Re: Newbie Looking to buy... what is this truck worth?

Thanks Longhorn Man and everyone else. You detailed answer is exactly why I joined this board. Until I come up to speed and become more knowledgable, I'll need all the help I can get to make sure I don't get burned.

Thanks, again.

Thats what its all about! You can build some sweet stuff
w/ highway signs. Ramps sheds trailors(great sides) boat parts seats
....fleetsides

When I lived in NC I was offered $9000 by a guy delivering pine needles!
He tried 3 times, but I couldn't do it. Pep Boys was right there and those
credit cards are a b#$%2
