Best frame paint?

Going to paint the frame before long and was wondering about really good paint. Not interested in Rustoleum or spray bombs (been down that road and they do NOT work in South Texas humidity and rain). POR 15 has never worked well for me on sandblasted metal like the frame will be. Even with their "new metal treatment" it always seems to peel off in spots. (and yes I follow instructions religiously on paint products and know the necessary things to do on POR 15). Any suggestions? Have not ruled out powder coating but would like to paint if possible

Re: Best frame paint?

Believe it or not, I am a big believe in getting Tractor/Industrial Paint and hardner from a place like Tractor Supply. You can get it in Semi/Gloss Black or other colors. Stuff seems pretty dang tough as I have used it on frames in the past. The first restoration of my 71' I used POR 15 with all the required steps and it peeled bad. I sandblast my frames now and spray what Tractor Supply has on the shelf $20-30. Just some Oil Enamel Primer, and spray color mixed with Hardner. Has held up better than POR15 for me. We have bad humidity in KS too. Trevor

Re: Best frame paint?

I've posted it before, its a great paint called Hammerite.

Here:http://www.tcpglobal.com/autobodydep...FRM6gwodnXY_ww

If you plan to spray it with a gun I use Acetone to thin it.

Re: Best frame paint?

It WOULD make sense that an industrial coating like something from TSC would work, after all tractors and equipment are always outside and work harder than most of our trucks ever will. Hmm I will sure think about doing that.

We use Hammerite a lot for chassis's and roll cages, just watch where you spray it. its best to do it outside. thats what i would use

Re: Best frame paint?

Is that Hammerite ok to use over sandblasted metal? And there is no primer? How does it hold up? Also I plan on spraying with a gun, Is one quart enough or would a SWB frame require 2?

USE THESE PAINTS!!! I have also used POR-15 but never had problems in southern Indiana where it is usually quite humid as well... That said... PRICE!!! TSC tractor paints are literally tough as tractors and they last... And the price is awesome!!!

Re: Best frame paint?

Digging up an old thread here....

El campo how did you end up painting the frame and how did it hold up? Looks like it's been almost 3 years. I'm looking to do the same thing now.

Also, is this the same product? http://www.kilz.com/hammerite/v/inde...008a05d103RCRD

Re: Best frame paint?

ppg (and others) makes an industrial epoxy primer that is reasonably priced.
called " commercial performance coatings"
primer # epx-908
they also have a compatible enamel top coat
