Question carb spacer installation

i still have my 1" open carb spacer. how long would this take to install and do i have to disconnect everything or can i basically lift the carb up then sit it down on this spacer then tighten it down? the d*mn thing didnt come with instructions so im guessing edelbrock thinks you oughta know what your doin
